Can some hot flushes feel more like surges?
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:18:41 PM »

Hi everyone

I don't get hot flushes, never had them, apart from one........once, and when I described it everyone told me it was a flush.  Basically I just got this feeling like something was about to happen (to me) then my heart started racing and whoosh, I broke out in a sudden sweat...felt panicky because I didn't know what was happening....

but apart from that I don't get them........but I do get this:  A feeling in my chest, like a 'surge' as if my chest has got this blow torch burning in the centre of it.....and palpitations, but usually a really forceful but slow pulse.  It often happens before a period starts.  I've had in depth heart checks despite doctors reassurance because I wanted to be sure it wasn't a heart problem, and I've been told not to worry.  To be honest I'm kind of used to it now, but just wondering if this might be my version of a hot flush?  Can they be like that?

Thanks   :)

Hello KaraShannon

Surges of one sort or another have always been a feature of my menopause! It's as if my hormones splutter into action and then take time to quieten down before repeating the whole process. It's exhausting  and I'm always trying to work out what to do about them. I am post meno now but still get these episodes where I swear I can feel the chemicals run through my body, altering me physically and emotionally.

Although I 've had definite flushes in the past they were never particularly troublesome.  I would not become red in the face for example and the sweating was confined to underarms and back. My night sweats were also manageable, no drenching of night clothes or changing of sheets.

Perhaps for some of us a surges replace flushes and if one response is fairly mild, the other is more extreme.

Hope this helps you in some way and I'm sure other ladies will be along soon.

Take care.

K.

Hi Kara, I still get this, the surge you?re feeling is adrenaline (I think) as this is controlled by oestrogen and once that starts falling, adrenaline rushes can increase, when I  get this whoosh sort of feeling ,I know there will be a flush along in a second or two, great isn't it  :-\
