estelle duet
« on: May 21, 2017, 04:54:23 PM »

Hi
I'm 57, post meno since 55 and had horrendous hot flushes, mood swings etc for 2 and a half years, eventually went to (lady) GP who put me on Estelle duet (1mg , 14 white, 14 green) At day 13 (April 13th) I had a period which lasted nearly 3 weeks (unusual for me), then 4 weeks after April 13th I had another one which has not stopped. It's very light and I'm not worried and want to persevere as I do feel much better than I did before April. I did have a hormone-surge bleed a year ago and was checked out VERY thoroughly and all is well.
What I'm hoping for is some reassurance that this is usual when trying a new HRT, or have any other ladies had a similar experience?

Not sure if this is anything to do with it (and I'm not feeling sorry for myself.........much  :'(!) but I retired in January, we moved 300 miles to a new town, my father-in-law is very seriously ill with end stage COPD and is in a care home, with a review this week to see if he will stay there for good, and my son is getting married in August. My new lady GP is wonderful and said I have a lot on my plate right now and not to hesitate to go back to see her if need be, not sure if I should?

Hi poppi you are on a sequential hrt which is designed to have a bleed at the end of the green tablets, some women don't always have a bleed ,I always did though when on it.

Thanks dazned, feel a bit more relieved hearing that.

Did you find you were more tearful? I'm trying to count my blessings as have no sleeping problems or hot flushes anymore  :) I was on Prempak (51-55) and found sleeping a problem but no tears or flushes.

If you are post Meno is there any reason you need a withdrawal bleed or was that your personal choice ? There are Conti regimes, elleste conti, femoston Conti for example although these are lower doses than what you are on but could perhaps be a possibility for you. Hope you feel better soon.

My GP wasn't sure if I would have a bleed or not - she said different ladies respond differently. I think I need to do a bit more reading about different kinds of HRT! I would rather not have a bleed as I was used to being period-free for nearly 3 years, I didn't know about the Conti types!

Look under the treatments tab at the top of page ,there it lists all the options available for post Meno,i.e. no bleed.  ;)

Hi Poppi - it can get confusing! This is the information on the Patient Information Leaflet

"Will I have periods?
You will probably have a monthly bleed. This may start any time between day 21 of the pack to day 5 of the next pack. This pattern will usually be the same from month to month. Some women may have no bleeds.
In the first few months you may get irregular bleeding. However, if this carries on you should tell your doctor."

Hope it helps.

Hey Poppi

I take Elleste Duet also and have a bleed on day 3,4 or 5 for a few days (sometimes 3-4 days, other times 7 days - although I think the 7 day one is maybe more my "natural" period maybe rather than the enforced bleed).  Ideally you should trial for 3 months before changing which sounds hard I know but they always recommend you do that.  Agree with Taz, if you are concerned, speak to your doc.

Basically, its not called the Change for nothing!  It knocked me for 6 with the flipping night sweats but the HRT has really helped with those.  You are right in that you have a lot on your plate just now so maybe just be kind to yourself and try and rest up as much as you can inbetween father in law and wedding admin?

Good luck anyway - keep us posted
