Hi - I'm new and I also wondered if somebody can advise?
« on: May 18, 2017, 02:01:53 PM »

Hello everybody,

I'm new and wondered if somebody can me give me some advice....or reassurance!

I'm 50 - 51 in December. I started on HRT when I was 48. It took me a while to realise what was going on, various symptoms but got there in the end. It started with being light sensitive, which was odd as I'd never had trouble with my eyes and didn't wear glasses, I realise now it was dry eye, along with dry other things! I didn't really have night sweats but in work my face would suddenly start burning as though i'd burnt it in the sun and then the rage.....oh dear I had my colleagues hiding under the desk on occasion. Anyway i visited my Doctor , well not the Doctor as my surgery only has x2 men and they aren't the best. I made an appointment with the lovely practise nurse, who I had two appointments with. She checked it wasn't a thyroid issue etc and then agreed I could go on HRT. She couldn't sign the prescription, it would have to be the Doctor and this was where my lack of faith in them was proven. The nurse called me in work to say that the when she asked for the prescription to be signed the Doctor said I was 'just depressed' never been depressed in my life, the nurse said she knew i wasn't depressed by the way my mood was, anyway after a telephone questionnaire was completed by the nurse he said I could have HRT.

Within two weeks of taking the HRT I was pretty much back to normal...still had the odd day of feeling something like PMT and a couple of nights of struggling to get to sleep. Everything else though listed below had gone completely - apart from some of the brain fog...which I think I might be stuck with!

Rage
Flushes/face burning
fatigue
aching arms and legs.

I haven't seen the Doctor at all since as they just gave me a new prescription each time I needed some more. I was/am happy with this as I always had the fear that they were going to try and get me to stop. Imagine my surprise and worry when i called up last week and they told me it had been discontinued (Prempak-C) think I was on the medium dose, not the high one. They gave me a prescription for a new one (without me seeing the Doctor) to see how I got on. When I took it to the pharmacist she looked a little surprised and said that they never see prescriptions for this one (which worried me) she even had out her little book. They ordered it in (Tridestra) and she said she would talk me through it when it came in, she then went off sick, so I just started taking it when the other pack ran out. Now i'm not sure if it's the new tablets (only been taking for 5 days) so I don't think it is but I've been having a few rage feelings and tired again, but to be honest I had a very heavy bleed this time (pretty much as I started taking the new tablets) so I think maybe my own hormones were having a bit of a meltdown and the new tablets were just a coincidence. I've tried to read up on the  new ones and it appears that I will only have  bleed every three months and they are for peri-menopause (not sure if I'm still that but presume so because of my age)

So does anybody have any idea if going on the new tablets will make any significant changes? I certainly don't feel as good as previous ones, but as mentioned that could be something that was already happening. I think I'll do the three months that they have given me and see how I feel. Not sure if anybody else has moved from one to the other and had any adverse effects. I also wondered why the pharmacist said she never came across this tablet, she said there were lots of others available like Premerin? I think she said. I wondered if it was a cost thing?

Anyway sorry for the very long first post. I only found your site recently and it's great. I always used to listen to articles they had on Woman's Hour to try to keep up to date!  ;D
