Thanks DaisyB :thankyou:

I have come across this link (not the actual link you posted!) between taste/smell and thyroid problems - and wondered if this was the case with me especially as I get extremely tired in the mornings. I have lost a lot of my sense of smell and some taste too. Unfortunately it's not the answer in my case as my thyroid (TSH) is absolutely normal - it has even gone down in the last couple of years! It might explain this in some women though.

Hi hurdity- I am not sure now what caused it as I had a bad chest infection at the time - but I also had a dreadful episode of overwhelming anxiety- I guess the trouble is that so many areas within the body are impacted and it's difficult to pinpoint what is the root cause (was thyroid starting to fo skew whiff, did infection cause nerve damage, or estrogen drop so low???)I started chiropractor few weeks back and I also started HRT - so can't be sure what has triggered the improvement - but I'm not complaining as it's coming back! Smelt my first 'bad' smell in 11 months last night and I'll never complain again  ;D  i couldn't tell if milk was off etc etc I am also curious about the thyroid as I've read a bit around regular testing not giving a complete picture - I will keep digging but may never get an answer  :-\  my tiredness is also worse in mornings - looks like thyroid is hard to diagnose if you fluctuate between hypo/hyper and sit within 'normal' range but low enough to get symptoms  ???
I am asking for antibodies to be tested - mentioned it last week and private GP didn't think it would be helpful. Next appt I'm insisting. I had shortness of breath and a dreadful tightness around my throat which came back yesterday- I just don't panic about the feeling of being strangled now as I'm beginning to accept these symptoms are ultimately connected to the hormones.

Glad yours is coming back! Mine is still there but reduced but I've been on systemic HRT for 10 years!! Fortunately I can still smell bad smells but not a strongly! Yes I gather some women have thyroid antibodies - indicating early Hashimoto's, even before blood tests show a problem (countrybumpkin is your expert here).
