Hi,

Has anyone experience of this pill for peri?  I started taking this at the end of last week.  I switched from Femodene, which was great, but my libido seemed a bit low and my vagina dry.  The first two days (one the estrogen) I felt fine mood wise, but could not stop eating all day.  The next couple of days I have had such an intolerant and stinking mood and feel a bit teary.  My skin seems to be a bit spotty and irritated with Qlaira, but I'm not yet sure if it's coincidence. The libido seems a bit better than Femodene.  Should I stick with it and give Qlaira a go, or just switch back to Femodene and consider vagifem?    Part of the reason for changing was that it isn't as high risk as Femodene and that it also uses the same estrogen as HRT.  Which I'm now not sure is agreeable with me,  From what I've read on the forum, people have done well on Qlaira, but so far for me it's the worst.

Hi katia

A week is not enough time to tell if QLAIRA is going to work for you especially as you are changing from another CCP. The ingredients of both are completely different both the progestogen and oestrogen components. Even with HRT the advice is to try it for 3 months because your body needs time to adjust. The expert on this is Briony but she hasn't been on for a while - hopefully because the Qlaira is working well for her.  I am hoping that because there aren't many women on here using this is because it is working rather than because it is fairly new. You could go to the home page of the forum and do a search although I have mentioned it a lot by way of recommendation - but hopefully you can pick out some threads. Have a look at Briony's posts if you can.

Sounds like you need Vagifem too, whichever pill you use - some women need local oestrogen as well as systemic especially deeper into peri-menopause and it is important to tackle this as early as you can - before it gets worse. That way you can keep it at bay.

I don't know how CCP affects libido - Qlaira does not involved taking progestogen for the whole month ( maybe femodene does) so this may help a little?

Let us know how you get on, make that doc appointment for some Vagifem,  and hope it settles for you soon :)

Hi Hurdity,

I've just read Briony's post with her experience on Qlaira. She too had the breakthrough bleeding and spotting problem.  I've also had the increase in breast size and libido on the 3mg, but both decreased once the progesterone was added. I'm torn whether to continue with it, or go back to Femodene which would be more controlling. I see the specialist later this week, so I'll see what he says.

Hurdity, I read that Briony referred to Pixie, who Qlaira didn't work for.  Do you by any chance know why? Mi couldn't find the post.

Also, will the vagifem help to increase the natural lubrication?  I think that would help my libido.   Worrying about it is probably making it worse.

Thanks so much.

Sorry I can't help re pixie - you could search for her posts too?

Yes Vagifem does increase natural lubrication, as do the estriol creams. It definitely is the first thing to sort out (VA issues) because if you are anxious about soreness and pain then you won't be able to relax!

my Night sweats have got really bad in Qlaira. They completely went on the 2mg estriol, 2mg dienogest days and then returned much worse than they have ever been when the progesterone went up to 3mg. I've stopped it for a couple of days to see if it is the Qlaira that's causing them, or if it's just not controlling them. I read it's licenced in the States for vasomotor conditions and vaginal atrophy, so I'm not sure why they would get worse.

Progestogen raises the basal body temperature.  My guess is that it pushes your bbt into the range where your body finds it difficult to control and you get night flushes.  This is more obvious with a menopausal wonky thermostat.

I suffered badly from night sweats on Femodene for many years, especially in the last 4 years when I had a lot of uro-genital symptoms as well.  It was not until those last 4 years that I made the connection but I still assumed that it was menopause that was the cause (although the wonky thermostat contributed in those later years).

The combined pill has the highest levels of progestogen, by a long way.

It might be worth continuing if the benefits you are getting outweigh a week of sweats?

dahliagirl, thank you.  I really hadn't had many and the few I had with cilest and Femodene were minimal.  I had not connected it to the pill until Qlaira.  They completely went away on the 2mg /2mg dose and coincided with the rise in progesterone.  I also wondered if it was the reduction in estrogen from Femodene that was catching up.  The downside is the higher prosterone is the bulk of the pills. I did wonder about taking one every other day, but I don't think I will be getting enough estrogen.

I've found online a HRT called Clomidien which is 2mg estradiol valerate, 2mg dienogest which matches the good part of Qlaira.  I've done a search on the forum, but nothing is coming up.  I'm not even sure if it's on the market or not yet.  I've done a post to see if anyone knows anything about it.  Fingers crossed as I really like that combination at that level.
