I don't know if it is just coincidence but I went to bed on a banana last night and I seem to be a little better this morning.

PMT was a bugga for me in my mid-30s  >:( so NAPS advised eating every 3 hours, even through the night! that is, high carbohydrate diet to keep blood sugar levels even ....... my puppy soon learned that there was a biscuit to be had once we had been out in the early hours  ;D.  Ginger biscuits, crackers, small handful of dried fruits and nuts .......

Hi Shellb,

What I would do if I was you is this- either ask the GP to test your blood sugars or buy an inexpensive monitor from Boots. Test your sugar levels on waking and 2 hours after meals. You will soon see a pattern because biscuits and refined carbohydrates will cause an insulin spike, and will then cause your sugar levels to peak.Even worse after we lose oestrogen we become less able to process too many carbohydrates- even bananas eaten at bedtime. If you are resting in bed you wouldn't really need the carbs they provide. Some type 2 diabetics are slim and crave sugars.

I would suggest doing this testing, as if you see anything of concern you can change matters quickly way down the line before you get a diagnosis of a disease. As Hurdity says you need to focus on healthy carbs like olives, nuts and avocado.

I did this some time ago and changed my diet and that of my husband as we were not as low as I would have liked. I thought I was eating healthily but it turned out there was room for improvement.

Here's a good place to start- the videos are excellent. You have to convert the numbers she gives as these are US but there is a good site here for this. http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/16422495.php

Thanks Ladies,
Unfortunately for the last few nights I've slipped back into cookies for bed time!
However, I now know that there is a definate connection with how I feel in the morning.
Therefore it will be stopped and substituted for a more healthy night time snack.
Thanks

Tnx for the update!  I've taken to 'cakes' in many forms in the last few weeks and complained of feeling bloated so Himself has suggested that we don't buy any more but up our intake of fruits and veg. [yawn]  ;D

I never buy cakes, you just can't be sure what is in them  ???.  I make my own as then I know what is going into my system  :).

Just a note about sugar in general - been to the seaside this past week with my 2 girls aged 7 & 8.

As it's been a treat for us all, I've allowed my 2, candy floss, ice cream and doughnuts! Their behaviour has been awful in the evenings. Not doing as they are told, falling out with each other, crying and just general Misbehaving.

If it has that effect on 2 pre - hormonal children, what does it do to us in the midst of this hormonal chaos?

It's really taught me a lot - glad we are home for cheese and crackers as
a bedtime snack!

my bowels only work without help when I have lots of veg but they also produce a lot of wind.  I farted in the vets the other week, all I could do was apologise  ::)
