Blood Test Results whilst wearing patch - confused!
« on: March 22, 2017, 02:59:58 PM »

I had a TAH nearly 8 weeks ago and been recovering ever since. I kept my ovaries.

The surgeon/consultant who did the operation wrote  to my GP to say he thought my ovaries were working as they looked okay and suggested I come off HRT and had my FSH & Oestrogen levels checked.

I was seeing my nurse practitioner on Monday, and she suggested that she do the blood tests now whilst wearing a patch. Then I was to make an appointment to see my GP and she would tell me how long I'd have to take patch off for, before doing a 2nd set.

The blood tests have been received today;

Oestrogen - 91.8 pmol
FSH - 53

Am I right in thinking that my ovaries may have now packed up? And there's not much point in doing a further set of tests?

I'm currently on 4/5ths of a 50 mg patch and may now increase. Having plenty of sweats every day, headaches, indigestion and poor sleep.

There doesn't seem to be any joined up thinking sometimes, maybe ring your Surgery and ask?

How are you feeling otherwise  :foryou:

That is a low estradiol reading and if you have been wearing a patch for a while then suggests you are not absorbing it - although one test alone may not be conclusive. However if you are still getting sweats then why not go up to a full patch and with a view to going onto a higher dose. I can't see any logic in stopping HRT at your age and if you are getting sweats and suffering! Provided you don't have any other conditions then the right oestrogen dose should eliminate sweats and flushes completely.

Thank you both for the replies.

I've always felt that I could feel the patch wearing off so to me, this confirms I need a higher doseage.

I see my GP on Monday to discuss the results however she's quite anti HRT but hopefully she will agree to increasing my doseage at some point.

I'm back at work now following my operation and need to get some focus but right now, I have real brain fog and low concentration so hoping the increased dose will help.

I would go to a different doc. How dare your doc be anti HRT in this day and age? S/he needs to get up to date - there has been plenty of publicity. She ought to read the news items on this website! You are entitled to the right treatment for your symptoms and if you are still having flushes then you need a higher dose of oestrogen, if there is nothing else causing the flushes. I would ask for a 75 mcg patch but increase gradually ie go up to 50 mcg for a couple of weeks or so and then try 62.5 by cutting bits off the 75 mcg etc until you are up to full strength - if this is what you need!

This young lady GP is in her 30's!

When I have spoken to her before about HRT, she said she didn't think that was the answer and offered to increase my AD's!

I would imagine I have no chance of getting testosterone from her!
