Testosterone, how to know if I need it?
« on: April 26, 2017, 02:36:12 PM »

Hi,
Testosterone doesn't seem to be standard as part of HRT on nhs, how do you know if it's something you would benefit from?
My libido never has been great, but virtually non existent since menopause, just wondering if testosterone could help? And if it is available from GP?
Don't want to grow facial hair though  ;D

Hi LJP- it's not licensed in the U.K for female use but GPs -some will prescribe it. You'd get it privately if your GP doesn't want to prescribe but you may have to go through a menopause specialist or clinic for this. My consultant may try me on it when I see him in a few months. Think you use a tiny bit so you avoid the full on hipster beardy look ( or Z Z Top if you're old enough to remember them ) x
It can help with libido and energy levels so I'd swap feeling like this to looking ( And sounding) like Brian Blessed ( God rest him)

So not something the average GP would prescribe then?

I was prescribed testosterone on the NHS, my gp emailed a gynae for advice and she prescribed it

It's not a guarantee to give you back libido, but worth a try and you deserve to be given a try x
