Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and have been trying to find my way around. I've already posted on someone else's thread as I didn't know wat I was doing and still don't really lol! I'm a 48 yr old mum of 4 and although have had peri symptoms for sometime now I am only just realising that's wat it has been. My symptoms provoked me to go to the doctors for blood tests. Thankfully they were all normal and I haven't been back yet as I'm still trying to make sense of it all.. my symptoms include erratic periods anxiety, numbness/tingling down my left arm and leg and chest. Sore itchy skin, painful breasts, aching swollen knee joint night sweats, general feeling unwell, dizziness. Weight gain, tearful snappy, low mood it goes on. I'm so glad I found this as all I do is google symptoms and frighten my self to Death So from now on I will come on here if I need reassurance as from wat I can see I'm certainly not alone. No one has ever told me wat to expect, my mum died wen I was 20 and she was 44 so didn't reach menopause and my friends just seem to be getting on with it so I tend to keep wats going on to myself. My husband has difficulty dealing with these things so I don't talk to him either.  ☹️

Sounds about 'normal'  ::) - browse round, make notes.

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also the body dries out: nostrils, deep in the ears, eyes, vagina, skin  >:(  ::)

Wow and I've also had dry nostrils for the last 3/4 years 😳Not to mention vaginal dryness I guess that's standard. Thankyou all for welcoming me 😊

Hello Mumalmighty and welcome to the forum.

Yep, you are certainly not alone!  Your problems sound fairly typical unfortunately plus many men don't understand how we feel so the ladies here provide a lifeline at this time in our lives.

Wishing you well and keep posting.

The vaginal dryness can be eased!  Do ask your Practice Nurse/GP for either Vagifem or Ovestin for vaginal atrophy, this is totally different to other forms of HRT delivery.  Once the vaginal skin becomes thin it can dry and stick  :o :do read our threads on vaginal atrophy of which there are several!  [My Bladder etc.] is one ...... some ladies find that along with the above they require regular moisturiser to keep outer lips moist.

Symptoms often present as repeated urine-type 'infections' which actually, aren't.

Bless you for that lollipop. Just today I have had my period again (12 days early) and feeling even more dreadful. It's that kind of hazy drunk feeling that comes in waves aswell. Just tired of feeling sorry for myself. I have 3 sons and a daughter whose only 9 so as u can imagine I have to go around acting as normal as poss when all I want to do is scream and cry and shout out how unfair it all is. It's so lovely to know I can now just air my feelings like now instead of keeping it to myself. Thank you so much. Hope u r well  😊

To an extent, I can empathise, Mumalmighty.  My mum died before I became menopausal and she never talked about her symptoms anyway, so I've no idea what she felt during the meno.   I now realise, though, that snappiness/irritability was one of her symptoms, although I used to think it was just my siblings and I being out of order.    Oh well, you live and learn!

You certainly do live and learn. I just don't think it occurs to a women wats really happening until we reach our late 40s. I have actually explained to my 9 year old about menopause as she is very inquisitive regarding periods etc but I don't let her know I'm feeling ill or worried as I don't want to burden her with that. I am one of 4 kids myself and we drove our mum crazy so yeh she was always snappy and irritable wen I think about it  ;)
