Is Vaping Antisocial?
« on: January 07, 2017, 04:19:00 PM »

I think it is. I'm sick of walking behind someone then suddenly finding myself in the middle of a huge sickly sweet vapour cloud. Do people realise how silly they look walking along surrounded by white steam? They look as if they're on fire!

Some smell very sickly.  The vapour off some of them is incredible.  Sure I saw something on tv saying that, given time, vaping will be seen as bad for health as cigarettes!

You can try CLKD, but not sure I could challenge someone walking in town with steam blowing around them. I'd be more likely to get punched!  Like with cigarettes etc., I just try & keep my distance.

they look very silly with those pipey things sticking out of their mouths.  I wish they could see themselves.

I think it depends how you do it.  Some people seem to have the idea that because it's not cigarette smoke, it's ok to 'share' it with anyone else around!  I think people who are vaping should remember that their 'steam' could also cause problems and try to be as careful of it as they would of smoke.  Most people I know are very considerate and definitely not anti-social, but I know one woman who blew a cloud of steam right in my face - it actually caused me some breathing problems though I'm not sure if this was due to the steam or the chemicals in it.  She was quite put out when I asked her to be more careful in future.  I've also had to ask another friend not to 'vape' in the car when I am giving her a lift, for the same reason.  She would never dream of lighting up when I gave her a lift in the past, but got out her pipe without even asking me!

It would be a shame to discourage vaping as so many people find it helpful in giving up smoking, but I hope that soon a 'vaping etiquette' will form, so that the rest of us won't have to keep choking on clouds of steam!

It is so much better than the smell of smoke, and doesn't make me choke so I can't say it really bothers me too much. I think some of them smell quite nice really, seems to be lots of strawberry ones around at the moment.

However, people are already becoming dependant upon their vaping habits  :sigh: ..... at least they should have areas to use them in and not in MY FACE!

Good topic  ;)

We found years ago that none of friends smoked ...... it wasn't a conscious choice.

I vape but only in my own home or car. It helped me get off cigarettes and I feel way better vaping as compared smoking tobacco. I'm definitely still addicted to nicotine but I've been able to gradually lower the nicotine strength so I'm hopeful I will eventually be able to quit vaping too.

When I found out my husband was having an affair I went out and bought a pack of cigarettes and smoked every last one in less than two days! I felt terrible and immediately went back to the vape. It's really helpful to get off cigarettes but still addictive and I think people should be polite and not use their vapes in public. 8)

It is about consideration in the main.

Did your husband leave?

I walked past a vape shop yesterday and it was packed with people all puffing away .... I thought the windows were all steamed up but it was the vape stuff.

Had vaping been around years ago when I quit smoking I am sure I would have been into it. I think it must be 13 years now since I quit.

Over 6 years for me now  :ange:.

I feel sorry for smokers really, they have very little sympathy from non smokers & are classed as sinners by some.

If they do it in their own time, in their own homes/spaces etc then what the hell has it got to do with me  :)
