Hi I've been taking estelle duet conti 2mg since February. I hadn't had a period for two years and I still have my womb. My hot flushes stopped within a couple of days however I felt annoyed all the time. In July almost overnight I started suffering from terrible anxiety about everything. This has kept me almost housebound for 6 months. Has anyone else had probs with this hrt? It may not be linked but wonder if I should stop? Thanks

Hi Marb - sometimes the continuous use of progesterone ( conti HRT) can cause PMT type symptoms - this is why many women choose to stick with a sequi HRT and put up with monthly bleeds.  The progesterone in Elleste is one of the strongest synthetic progesterones so it is common to get more PMT with this.
Look at the list of various HRTs under TREATMENTS at the top of this page - you'll see there are plenty to choose from - You could try Femoston as this has a kinder progesterone. Try the sequi Femoston first (under peri meno treatments) and if the progesterone seems to suit you then you can switch to the conti.  If you don't want to have a bleed, one of the best options is to have a Mirena fitted and use oestrogen as patch or Oestrogel alongside.  The Mirena allows you to use as little or as much oestrogen as you need but less progesterone is circulated around the body so will therefore brings fewer side effects.
It is trial and error I'm afraid and about finding the HRT that brings the best symptom relief with the fewest side effects.  DG x

Hello Marb and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to read that you have been suffering.  I am also on a conti regime and I am wondering if the constant progesterone is contributing to my anxiety and irritation.

I think Dancinggirl has given you some good advice and hopefully you can find a regime that suits you better.

Thank you all. What I find really annoying is that my GPS just keep saying that hrt should make you feel better so it can't be that! Aaaarg!

Sadly many GPs are not up to speed on different HRT types nor the potential (adverse) impact of some continuous progestogens - even though this is well documented by gynaes and in review papers about HRT, so remarks like that are unhelpful. Don't give up and do take some time to read up about the different treatments from what Dancinggirl has suggested - and keep us posted
