Evorel Conti - help please
« on: December 15, 2016, 07:43:24 PM »

Hi everyone, I am nearly 55, post meno 3yrs and two and a half weeks ago I spoke with a female meno specialist who recommended Evorel Conti.  As I was nervous about starting them she suggested I start on half a patch for two weeks before upping to a full patch.  Well without realising two and a half weeks had passed and I upped to a full patch yesterday afternoon.  I am on the 3.2mg estradiol and 11.2mg norethisterone strength.

I have other problems going on as well ie. autoimmune thyroiditis, oral Candida, anxiety and depression.

I have been fine on the half patch with no side effects but my meno specialist said to up the patch to a whole one which I did yesterday.   Today, I have had a terrible day with anxiety and some depression, trying to keep it at bay with my Diazepam.

Could it be the patch or just me having a bad day?  I have anxiety most days anyway but I must admit not long after starting the patch the anxiety wasn't quite so bad. Emailed my specialist but I don't think she is about today.  On speaking to someone on Facebook they said they felt quite ill on their patch until it settled down.  Anyway I have trimmed some of the patch off to just over half.

Looking for some advice, experiences and guidance please because I don't know whether to go back to wearing half a patch for say a full month and then up it to about 3/4

It could be the norethisterone in the patch which is causing the problems. Many ladies have issues with it. It took me several months before I settled down with it.
Hi Hasty
What problems did you have with it please?

Hi Jefner - I first had problems when I met it in Loestrin 20 COCP. I got really ratty, aggressive and tearful.mWonderful combination!. I then had a gap of 6 months after I stopped the Loestrin before I started on Evorel Conti patches.

I've been ok on the patches but I was so ratted up when I initially started the Loestrin which had the Norethistrone.

The thing to remember the horrible feelings do pass, they just take some time, I would say 6 months to get totally used to the Norethistrone.

I am not willing to give it 6 months I am afraid because I have been living with debilitating symptoms for over a year now.  If it doesn't make much of a difference after two months when I skype with my meno specialist again, I will stop it

Hi jefner. I used Everol conti 50 and started on a third of the patch, I then increased to half and went on the full after 2months. Was ok for a week or so and then suffered terrible side effects, in fact I became suicidal. If you felt great on the half and it helped with your symptoms then stick with the half. x

Hi Clare
Am very worried when you said you became suicidal because I have already experienced that this year.  What dosage were you on when you experienced that?  Did you remove the patch immediately or have to wean yourself off it?

Hm - If you've been getting the symptoms for over a year then it probably isn't going to change.

I have a long history of anxiety and some depression anyway.  My body crashed last year when my thyroid suddenly went over active and I had all the symptoms to go with it and they have stayed with me ever since

Hi jefner. It does take time to get used to the patch. I had bad anxiety before I used the patch. Just carry on with half a patch for a couple of months. I did that and built them up slowly. I have 2 friends using th as well and they are both fine.  I also tried the gel and utrogestan and didn't do too good on that regime.

thank you Vicky.  Did your anxiety improve?  I managed to get in touch with my meno specialist and she recommended I carry on with half for a month and build up slowly

Hi, it was a couple of years ago, I was using the sequi version as still having periods, I don't know if it was the estrogen or norethisterone that affected me like this but it was truly awful...I was prone to anxiety before the HRT I have to add.

I also would do things like get on the wrong bus ending up somewhere I didn't want to be (this is after work I'm talking about, been getting the same buses for years!) and not even remembering getting on the bus in the first place...was a horrible time.

I used the patches for 3 months until I couldn't take any more...it's tricky because you don't want to give up once you get so far just in case that magic day you wake up feeling good is just around the corner...

I hope you find something that works for you...maybe it was just too great a leap up to the full patch x

Hi. It did take me a good few months to feel better with the evorel conti patches. See how you feel, half a patch may be okay for you for a while.
I stopped and started the patches a few times during the first three months.
The anxiety is much better now for me. Before the patches I tried citalopram, only for a week and had to stop those
Hope you feel better soon

at what point do I give up on this hrt.  Am still feeling very very depressed and the anxiety and nausea is as bad.  I had been cutting down on  my Seroxat the last few weeks because after 15yrs it had stopped working for me BUT  have decided to up that again.  Also find out that packing in the ciggies causes anxiety and depression as well for a while.

What the hell have I done to my body.  I don't know what to do at the moment

Hi. If the patch is affecting you that much. I would still cut it down further to a quarter and then try from there. It could be that you may not be suited to that regime. I tried the oestrogel and utrogestan (7 days per month) regime. I felt really bad with that.
People do have to experiment with different HRT types to hit on the one that suits.
Hope you feel better soon.
Let me know how you get on.

jefner - I replied on your other thread - if you are taking Seroxat, diazepam and Evorel conti - your body won't know what's what! I gather diazepam is highly addictive (according to other members on here) and it could be that the Evorel conti (the norethisterone part of it) is compounding the problem with your depression.

I would try a different HRT type and go back onto a cycle - then at least you can sort out whether you can tolerate the progestogen OK - it is this part of HRT which causes the majority problems for women if there are going to be any, and you are taking it all the time and a synthetic one to boot.
