Ia anyone good at translating blood test results please?
« on: December 13, 2016, 12:33:59 PM »

Hi
Just got my report through from my blood test.  I'm 8 years post meno and was having a break from HRT, so the test was done at that time.  Can anyone tell me what all these mean please?

LH
CUH Luteinising Hormone (CUH) - 38.6 U/L

INV
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone - 1.58  mlU/l 0.35 - 5.5
Free T4 (CUH) - 12.8       pmol/L 10 - 19.8
Follicular Stimulating H (CUH) - 93.3    U/L

Oestradiol (CUH)   <90   pmol/L

Testosterone, by MS (CUH)  -  0.3  nmol/L  0 - 1.8

Thanks in advance!

Your thyroids look ok. The free T4 is at the lower end of normal in the listed range, but given that your TSH isn't high at all, it looks  fine and normal. And your FSH is post meno but at 8 years you already know that  :D

I have no idea what estrogen or LH should read, if a normal range even exists. I'm sure someone will jump in with a better answer for you.

Hi Jellyb

When you say your blood test was done at that time - which time? ie how long after stopping HRT were the bloods taken? I would love my TSH to be that low - it hasn't been like that for many years but within normal range :(

You estradiol is normal for post-menopausal woman which is low. Not sure why they do LH as it seems to be a similar range in post-meno as at ovulation from what I saw on GP notebook  :-\

Testosterone is clearly low as it would be the older you get and also if you are well post-menopause - although at this end of the scale I was told by gynae that tests are inaccurate.

FSH is what you would expect post-meno and not on HRT.

Why did you have the tests? For me the main point if you are post-meno is to know what my thyroid function was like because if it is well within the normal range as yours is, then any symptoms are more likely to be due to menopause.

Thanks for the replies.
Hurdity - I had the tests done after i had been off hrt for well over a month.  My consultant wanted to see what all my levels were while I wasn't taking anything. I no longer have a cycle,  no breakthrough bleeding either,  he just wanted to see my levels.
So,  I take it from your comments that all seems normal.
Thanks.

Hi, Jellyb!

And as I recall, you've had a bilateral oopherectomy too is that correct? How are you feeling in yourself now that you're off everything? I'd be very interested to know, as a lady who has had an oopherectomy herself. I'm also not sure if we are close in age? I'm 47.
