Hi ladies. To cut a (very long) story short; been post meno for about 4 years now, last year got very anxious and depressed and dr put me on citalopram and HRT. First I was on Evorel conti but had bleeding, swapped onto conti but couldn't get on with it, put on kliovance and still bleeding so sent for scan which showed thickened endometrium and fibroids. Had hysteroscopy and removal of small polyp - results all good so plan now is mirena coil and separate oestrogen.

Finally got a call today to say they could do it on 31st Jan but I would need to bring the coil with me (need to get the prescription from my GP) but what about the oestrogen? I'm all confused - when do I stop the kliovance and will my anxiety increase as a result of the change of hormones?

I'm panicking because my anxiety is going into overdrive now and saying things like "what if it makes you worse?" Please help!

Mojo - phone the GP tomorrow and ask for the Mirena to be got in for you  - The separate oestrogen should be prescribed my the GP as either patch or Oestrogel depending on how you would like to use it and I would ask for this prescription at the same time as the Mirena.  I think it is strange that you have to do this as they should have the Mirena in stock where they are fitting them!!!!
I would keep using the Kliovance until you have had the Mirena fitted and started the oestrogen. Don't panic - there will probably be some adjustment after the change over but until you try this option you won't know whether it will work. Don't expect problems.
The Mirena with separate oestrogen works extremely well for many women and after the first few weeks of odd bleeding and spotting, should settle and you can use as little or as much oestrogen as you need to keep the meno symptoms under control.  Good luck  DG x

Thank you DG. I was referred to this clinic because my GP doesn't fit them so that's why I've got to get the mirena myself, because the clinic won't pay for it.

I hope the GP surgery will pay for it though (the actual coil) - surely this is just a normal prescription charge?

I can't understand any Surgery that doesn't offer a coil fitting service  .  Do let us know what the Surgery tells you!

Not all surgeries fit them CLKD, mine wouldn't do mine because I have never given birth or been pregnant so it may have caused issues. I know when the gynae at the hospital tried to fit one without any anaesthetic he stopped as soon as I told him I had never been pregnant etc  as it was more painful for me. Why he assumed I had given birth I do not know!!!

I was also told that my surgery had to supply/pay for the actual coil.

You'll be fine Mojo61, Have the coil fitted & ask about the separate oestrogen from your GP or at the hospital. Remember you can also have the option of tablets as well as patches or cream.
