Changes in the skin texture - any help?
« on: September 10, 2016, 09:12:01 AM »

I've noticed a general dryness in my overall skin since the Menopause but more recently my facial skin has become ultra dry and flaky. Although I cream-wash my face and use quality moisturiser it still feels rough to the touch especially the T-zone.

Has anyone found a supplement or cream that replenishes the moisture and smoothes away the roughness?

Thank you ladies!

Hi Sadie49, sorry to say I haven't found a cream that helps permanently as yet but the products I now use certainly help to smooth the skin while I'm wearing them.
Try:
A serum for your base layer
A moisturiser aimed at mature skin but not too heavy or greasy. The make I use by a well known large high street company does a range that suits various ages of skin. I go for the middle one as the over 60's is way too cloying. ( sorry but I'm not sure if I am allowed to mention products by name on here).
Now this last product I apply on top is a skin smoother and it makes all the difference. Again, some are better than others but I swear by a small red pot by a higher end company whose name begins with Cla
It polishes and smooths and makes the facial skin peachy.
If you want the names, drop me a pm.

Hi linz - you are allowed to mention products but you can't post a link to sites which have a "buy now" or "shop" facility

I use Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect range. They do different types for different age ranges. They often have it on 3for2 offers. I have used it for a good few years. Occasionally, I try a cheaper version but it never works as well and I always revert back to the No.7 one.

As for dry skin...yes I have noticed this a lot during peri. The skin on my arms and legs is really dry. I've never been one for moisturising after a bath/shower but I'm having to now as my skin is so dry.

Thanks Taz, I wasn't sure so I erred on the side of caution.

Yes, I too wear Boots Protect and Perfect Intense range of serum and moisturiser and then I finish off with the Clarins polisher, called Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch. It's a bit pricey but a small pot goes a long way and it really does give a good finish.
Having said all this I have to admit that my hrt had helped my skin quite a lot. Beforehand, my neck was going crepey and starting to resemble crocodile skin but  the estrogen has smoothed it out somewhat.

Weleda's Evening Primrose products, plus their Firming Facial Gel,  work for me.  Yes, a bit pricey, too, but what price beauty - sorry, eternal youth?  :)

Yes I also use the No 7 protect and perfect serum and Night cream (don't use Day cream as it has sun screen in it and I don't want this!). I use the Lift and Luminate, being ancient. Seems to do the job as my skin is fine - but maybe partly genetics and/or HRT as well. have been using it for about 10 years I would say.

What's the T-zone?

Nose and forehead are the T-zone, I think, Hurdity

Another vote for Boots protect and perfect here - I use the morning and night cream , I also use an eye cream too , on my skin I use Vaseline ( aloe Vera ) the green one I find its not as greasy as some

I use Lancome Energie De Vie (also helps with my eczema).  But it is expensive.  My sister however uses some cheap one she gets from Lidl and it works really well for her (doesn't work for me though).
