Monosodium Glutunate  :-\ affects loads of people and for some reason it's used a lot in the catering industry.

Yes, I was 28 when that allergy started, it was the night before our holiday and everything just swelled, and swelled and swelled.  When I told my GP she knew straightaway it was the MSG

How awful.  I thought it had gone out with the Ark ! and although I love most curries, it isn't a requirement to join in ;-).

Did he sulk?

It's a lazy method.  Freshly cooked food doesn't need a preservative ……..

Did who sulk ?

They still use msg but if they cook to order I just ask to have it removed, I can tolerate the msg from factory made food Ie chicken balls but more recently have a reaction to crisps

Think it's used because;
-  It's cheap
-  It's a preservative
-  It adds flavour allegedly.................

Anyone who eats a takeaway with me gets the non msg food too and they've always said they can't tell the difference, so they're wasting their time and money adding it in aren't they ?

Er - Who is wasting time and money.
MSG is cheap.
It's good for preserving things - it would cost more to omit it.
Many feel it enhances flavour.

My lot can't tell the difference when it's not added

Ok, not wasting time and money if it's cheap and just takes sprinkling/pouring it in

But why would we need our takeaway preserving ? I order it, they cook it and it's eaten within the hour

There are of course other preservatives.

Agree Annie - if it's 'freshly' prepared and cooked then MSG is NOT required.

I meant did OH sulk ……...

Sorry, my brain just isn't working ! Do you mean did OH sulk last night over the curry ? No he was making amends and wanted to be friends again

If you mean years ago night before holiday with the msg, he was my ex husband and so long ago I can't remember, or I've conveniently erased him from my memory lol
