Wed. Was my 1st day on hrt. I almost declined when i called the pharmacy to see if it was ready for pickup..
294.82 was the price for 3 months!
I was in shock.
After giving the tech. All my info i asked for her to call my insu rance and get back to me with more explanation.

20 minutes later 294.82 changes to 10.00 a month!!!@😨
Then I realized a generic form of the pills were prescribed.
Had I not asked and been outraged with the initial quote I probably would not have started the HRT.
 So if I may ask, how much do you spend on your prescription?

I've never taken any meds in my life, so this is my 1st go round with prescribed meds.
I'm looking forward to learning more on this forum. I've got so many questions.

I presume you live in the USA, Sarah? Over here in the UK, you pay a charge for each item on a prescription, but if you are 60 and over, like me, it's free, which I am very grateful for. My son and his family live in the USA. I understand that medical insurance is very expensive on top of taxes, similar to taxes over here, but you still have many of the problems we have here with waiting lists etc. If you look at the pricing lists of items on this site, you will see what we pay if the prescription is a private one.

I use estradot patches, and I bought a box today and it cost $13.50 and that's for a month. I also use provera, and box of 56 tablets costs $15, but that will last for months and months, because I only take 12 tablets every second month.

I fortunately get all NHS prescriptions free due to taking drugs which are on the exemption list (as long as I have a current exemption card)

Here in Northern Ireland all prescriptions are free. An amazing privilege!

I should not be complaining though, many people have horrorific stories of going without because of increasing cost.

Prescriptions are free in Wales too. 

But I'm on the birth control pill instead of HRT, so I'd get that free even in England but would have to pay if it changed to HRT - crazy!

I read/contribute to the US based Ynab budgeting forum. i have read so many examples of people struggling financially because they can't afford treatment. Also on the UK Patient website because there are quite a few US contributors. For example people saying that they can't afford essential thyroid medication so have stopped taking the treatment

I'm in the US and mine is similar. I can't recall at the moment, I think my patches are about 120/month and my prometrium is about 50 for a 3 month supply. I'm hoping to change health plans next year to one with a drug co-pay. Over the course of a year, that's a pretty large expense I never thought I'd have to deal with.

I could get them for $10 if i was a pensioner.
My cousin in Englad with 56 million people living in England sadly they cant afford to give free scripts till 60 . She pays £8 box of 18

We do, but it's a guessing game. One doesn't want to pay a higher price for a plan that provides more than she anticipates needing. I never expected to have such an expensive prescription on repeat at this stage of my life. My only other repeat is for thyroid, and that's roughly 10 dollars/month. Changes to health plans are commonly permitted only at year end, and some are stuck with whichever plan their employer offers. It's hard to comprehend why HRT is so expensive when birth control pills and patches can be had for free and are more or less the same thing.

Birth Control is in the title ;-).  HRT is not recognised in the same way.  I think that our NHS is headed the same way!

If you pull down the drop down box in the menu at the top of the forum, it tells you how much each HRT costs the NHS. It's pretty much closely the same on a private prescription too, with a pharmacist's discretionary discount.
