Unbearable Itch

Hello Ladies

This is a little personal, although aren't most of our conversations.  I have been suffering from discomfort in my nether regions for a number of years now, and more so since I found out I am in peri-menopause.  My main problem is reoccuring thrush and extreme dryness and itching on the external regions of my Vagina.  It the dryness and itching only occur on the left side and my skin is very thin and flaky.  I went to the gp a while back about it and she took a swab and said it was thrush and treated it accordingly.  This has carried on for several years now and I've just started to wonder if it's all connected to my peri.  I am currently using Oestrogel 2 pumps a day but nothing else.

Any advice would be very welcome.  My gp has agreed to refer me to a meno-clinic, is this something they will deal with?

Sounds like VA to me - that would certainly explain why you're getting thrush here and there. Yes, the meno clinic would help but it might be that your GP could too and that you would benefit from local oestrogen such as Vagifem, Ovestin or the Estring. There are quite a few threads about it (try the Burning Club for instance) - see if those symptoms seem to match yours?

Thank you Ancient Runner

I will have a look.  It's horrible and really effecting my confidence in allowing my other half near my nether regions :(

Hopefully the referral will go through quickly and I can speak to someone who can give me all the correct advice and medications.

I use Savlon or Vaseline regularly on the outer lips to keep area moist.  A few years ago I had repeated urine 'infections' which was the start of vaginal atrophy, my GP was on the case and prescribed treatment.  Sorted! most of the time.

My thread (can't remember the name  :-\ ) explains all.

That's interesting, I was told never use Vaseline, savlon or the like.......after trying many products. Some over the counter, some prescribed without success I now shower using no soap or shower products of any kind in that area (I use the shower head to thoroughly rinse after showering) then after gently drying, sometimes using a hairdryer, wear nothing below the waist for about half an hour....giving my nethers  a good airing......bliss......after months of discomfort it's all back to normal and fine

I use it on the outer lips, buttocks etc., not inside, I have Ovestin for internal!

My gynaecologist also recommended washing the nether region with Vagisil to help balance the acid/alkaline levels along with oestrogenising the vagina with vagifem or Ovestin. After having a period of time of repeated thrush infections, all has settled down. The walls of my vagina were described as red, thin and fragile. Soooo much better now!

This needs to be diagnosed ……….. I had it without the cheesy discharge but oh the itch, high up! after I stopped taking The Pill.  Can't remember what the treatment was, other than not to scratch  :o
