Haha, they probably shrunk in the wash anyway and were tight enough in the beginning to bring water to your eyes! Right I'm going up to put them in the recycling right now!

Is this a new thing?  I didn't have any when I had my C section or my hysterectomy but they were many years ago  ???

Didn't have them with my C section either, but my husband had them with surgery recently. Haha, I gave him lots of grief and again washed them and put them in his drawer!!? WHY??

I had a Heparin injection after appendectomy in 1991 [Valentine's Day if anyone's asking  :D] but not when I had breast surgery 3 years later.  Stockings, yep.  Sexy, not very  ;D

I didn't have any after a C section 26 years ago, mind you back then I didn't have a huge varicose vein either. Maybe it's a more recent thing and the hospitals like to err on the side of caution.
Will I chuck mine out or keep hold of them? Hmmm, watch this space.... ;D

Ooh yes! A bit of holly on the side and a jingle bell on the top, perfect for hanging over the fire haha

Sounds like you had an awful time in hospital!

I've just had a ga but they just gave me a blood thinning injection ...I remember that one just as I was coming round and the nurse jabbing my thigh! No stockings though!

Surgeon just said if I fly to take an aspirin and wear flight socks which I do anyway.

I think it's just until you can get fully mobile. I was concerned after my op as I couldn't get up due to low blood pressure and dehydration for ages, more worried about not moving than anything else!

Hope you recover ok!

Thanks wombat62, I'm still bleeding quite a bit but feeling more back to normal now the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off.
Wouldn't it be simpler if everyone was just given the blood thinning injection in the first place? Better than taking chances I think, but I guess it's a cost thing once again.
Do you take an aspirin and use flight socks just as a precaution or are you in a high risk category? I think I have some of those very low dose pills in the cupboard, I might take a couple before the weekend as I have a five hour car journey on Saturday coming up.

I've just used them since all the dvt stuff was highlighted as I was on the pill, fortunately not the one that seems to give so many problems these days. I also get swelly ankles when I sit for ages (always have) so the compression socks help with that as well.

I try to get up and walk around often on a long flight and I'm a dreadful fidget so I'm always moving around in my seat, which may help!

It's a good idea to use them on long car journeys as well if you can't stop often.

Hope the bleeding stops soon!
