Feeling awful today
« on: April 15, 2016, 10:33:40 AM »

Feeling really groggy and drowsy today, my head feels so foggy, horrible headache and really sleepy, eyes feel watery and stingy too  :-\
Could be the remnants from my cold/chest infection but I'm thinking it's more likely it's the Mirena as I remember feeling like this on utrogestan.
Feel really anxious and jittery too  :-\
Please tell me this won't last and it'll settle  :-\

Are you on estrogen as well? I know some people had worse experiences with Mirena than I did, but my bad effects were slow and building. It's hard for me to imagine that it could be causing that type of symptom so quickly.

Hiya, yeah I'm on 4 pumps of estrogel and also testim gel. Within days of taking utrogestan it affected me in the same way, after the 5/7 day course it took ages to clear my system  :-\

I'm bleeding a bit more too, it's not spotting its bright red sometimes with clots, is this what you found?

No, my ill effects were nausea, breast problems, migraines, maybe some anxiety and allergy issues. I had very light periods on it initially then later spotting for periods. I didn't notice any effects until many months after insertion.

Chi Chi - I really think you are feeling groggy from your virus and chest infection. If you have had ABs they will leave you feeling tired and low.  The viruses going round at the moment are laying people very low for some weeks so I really wouldn't blame the Mirena yet.  Some early side effects from the initial hit of progesterone is to be expected but this will settle.  It will take 3-4 weeks to recover from the virus and the ABs.  Be patient - I'm sure you will feel good soon.
BTW the effects that women report about it taking several days for the Utrogestan to get out of their system is probably more to do with the withdrawal of the progesterone and the body starting the bleed - I doubt it is the progesterone lingering and causing these problems. Once you stop the Utrogestan, your body registers that drop in progesterone and this usually triggers the withdrawal bleed - this would happen with a natural cycle, only HRT cannot mirror exactly what our own bodies do naturally so I believe the extreme can sometimes be felt more when using HRT.  Dg x

How long had you been on the gel? I'm not familiar with it, but isn't that a fairly high dose? Firstly, I wouldn't change anything until you're well clear of your infection and have had time for adjusting to Mirena. But then I would wonder if the estrogen is too much. I'm sorry, I don't recall your history. I actually asked about the estrogen because that described how I felt before estrogen, but as I'm sure you know, the symptoms of too much vs. too little estrogen are very confusing and overlap. Hang in there! I hope you're feeling some relief soon.
