Is it normal to have no bleed on cyclic hrt?
« on: March 29, 2016, 06:31:23 PM »

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had experienced the absence of a period/bleed while using hrt cyclically.

I am 53 years old, and probably post menopausal. I am in the U.S., so forgive me if I use names of medications not familiar in the UK.

I am taking Divigel (Sandrena gel) 0.5 mg. daily, and Prometrium (Utrogestan) 200 mg. for 12 days every month. I have been on these medications for close to a year, and had a period after the Prometrium for the first few months.
Now it has been about 6 months since I have had one even though I have continued the medications the prescribed way.

My question is, should I be concerned that the bleeds have stopped? Could it just be that I am no longer building up enough lining to shed since my own hormones have declined?

Thank you in advance. I really love this forum!

Thank you for the quick response, StellaJane!
That is a reassuring answer. I do take the progesterone every month, so hopefully all is well.

Hi dixie! Maybe you're pregnant?  ;) Sorry, couldn't resist! I'm also in the US and on Prometrium cycles. It's my understanding that the prometrium prevents excessive buildup of the lining, so you should be fine. You could actually switch to a continual combination patch or take the lower dose of 100 prometrium daily instead of cyclical since you're not bleeding anymore. But if what you're doing is working for you I don't know that I would change a thing.

Thanks for the reply, Lizab!
Surely not pregnant, LOL! That ship sailed long ago.  I will be talking to my gyn about changing to continuous hrt, as I'm pretty sure I'm post now.
