How long for vagifem to work
« on: February 28, 2016, 11:05:41 AM »

Sorry it's me again. How long has it taken other Vagifem users for it to work? I started symptoms again before Christmas and did the two week reload. I am now using three a week. Some days are better than others. Today is particularly bad. Why good some days and then down hill again? Sorry to keep asking. Replies appreciated.

Try five times a week, which is what the old dose is equivalent to.
For the past year I have never been able to manage on any less than that.
I saw a meno specialist a few months back and was told even using vagifem every day would not be a problem as that dose was only equivalent to one oral HRT tablet a year.

Thank you for that reply will try 5 a week. Saw my practice nurse on Friday and she suggested I wear skirts for work, to stop the Infections I keep getting. Also got another prescription for Timodine cream an anti fungal cream. She also thinks when I retire in July, I will be a new women. No more sitting aggravating that area. Hope she's right.   It's all a pain in the under carriage. Thanks again.

It is a miserable condition, I get the distinct feeling that some medical professionals feel that it is trivial compared to night flushes etc....it is not!!
Try the five a week and hope you feel more comfy soon.

You have my sympathies.  I tried to put a humorous spin on this very subject this morning,

here-  http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,31154.msg494230.html#new

but it is far from amusing when it strikes, I know.

I have been fine on every other day for several years but symptoms are returning so I might go to the 5 a week.  I did a 14 day reload but it made me more sore as I think there was too much of the fillers going on.

Have you tried Vagifem with estriol/estradiol cream externally.  That sometimes helps  :)

If you aren't allergic to silicone the estring is very good as the fillers are much kinder.

Yes I have tried Estriol cream but it really burns me, whoops I'm burning right now. Have been told to stop using that. Every thing I use causes burning. Can't understand why it flares up during the day. Some days I think ooh good it's gone. Can't believe I'm saying this but role on retirement. What a wretched thing for us all to put up with Thank you for your replies. .

"Infections" - is this 'talk' or diagnostic? i.e. has a urine sample been sent away to a Lab. for testing?  Vaginal atrophy mimics urine infections feelings which regular use of local oestrogen will ease.  Try using the preparation more often and keep notes.  Occasionally I require 3/4 nights Ovestin1mg treatment to keep symptoms away.

Why use an anti-fungal cream if you don't have any fungal growth?  Your Practice Nurse is I am afraid, IMHO, cluchting at straws  :bang: :bang: :bang:  - why would retirement make any difference, my symptoms didn't start until I had been retired for 10 years  :-\

Thank you for replying, yes I have been diagnosed with an infection by a lovely lady Doctor, hense using an anti fungal cream. I also took in two urine samples on Friday they are being sent away for testing. Hopefully testing the urine samples will be able to throw some light on the matter. During half term week and not under stress I didn't have any problems with burning or stinging. No sitting to aggravate that area. Sorry you are suffering CLKD. Take Care.

Have you thought of sitting on a 'ring', i.e. similar to those that children use when learning to swim?  Have a look at your local mobility shop web-site (is that the correct word  :-\) anyway; the shops that sell incontinence pads, walkers etc.; some sell rings for people to sit on ………

Why would the anti-fungal cream work for a suspected urine infection  :-\ - I was immediately reminded of 'mycil' which Dad used for his athletes foot  ::)

I sometimes get irritated if I sit directly on 'it'  so I tend to sit more on my bottom .I also go knicker less as often as possible  and if I do have to wear them , I turn them inside out so the seams don't rub

Reminds me of Himself, if ever I mutter 'knickers are not comfy' he whispers back 'take 'em off'  ::) ………. I don't feel dressed without though  :-\ …….

I have found that varying both my ADs and the times I use the Ovestin1mg is vital to keep my brain/body comfortable.  I don't  read the leaflets in the boxes so don't let any suggestions worry me ;-).
