Mood swings
« on: April 05, 2016, 08:36:01 PM »

I'm wondering how mood swings affect other people.   At the moment, I'm tense in the mornings, very focused in the afternoons, and apathetic in the evenings to the point where I can't find anything that I want to do, not even read or watch TV.   Oh, and feeling guilty at wasting my time on my laptop.........

Hi

I'm currently having a day or two of mood swings!

My mornings start off okay, then I usually wobble until dinnertime. Usually get better as the day goes on.  Unfortunately over the last few days, I've been all over the place, been crying over silly things, and today, have not been able to shake the gloominess.

My problems are spending too much time in my own head judging myself and overthinking.

Thinking of trying a vit b supplement and magnesium spray.

That's almost exactly what I've been getting, Mis71Mum.   And I completely identify with the judging myself and overthinking, too.   Oh, what a joyful time this is!

Hi,   yes, I have to say the mood swings are horrendous - it is like having pms for most of the month!  My OH has said that I don't know how I will be feeling from one HOUR to the next.  This morning, I feel apathetic but it is usually in the mornings when I feel very tense & become tearful & anxious (I will wake up with a start).  The afternoons will be calmer but by the evening, like you Dulciana,  I feel I cannot be bothered to do anything again.   Do you find that the mood swings also render you unable to make concrete decisions?  I find I will feel something is right one day, only to feel comp!etely different about it the next.
Mis71Mum - I know exactly what you mean about overthinking and judging yourself as I do it everyday - I feel like a failure and have lost my confidence due to the mental health issues that peri has thrown up.

In February my routine 6 monthly blood test showed I had low levels of vitamin D.  I have been using a vitamin D spray (recommended on here as preferable to tablets) and I am finding my moods levelling out from what they were. Many of us can be low or borderline vitamin D without realising it.

Hi Babyjane,  that is interesting about the Vit D as I am going to have a blood test (tomorrow, hopefully) to check my Vit D levels along with iron & thyroid as I read recently about the problems caused by low levels.  Desperately want to improve my moods as they are creating havoc!

Hi Ladies

It's strange that you mention the Vit D and low levels as I too had low levels of it in December 2015.  I started a supplement and took it for about 6 weeks, then started to feel good and strangely, I had 2 natural periods 28 days apart, then stopped the supplement. My mood has dropped again and my periods have also disappeared.

Think I'll re-start them again and see what happens.

MadBloss - i'm totally with you on the confidence issue, it has really affected mine too.  Also when I tell my husband how I feeling, he says "just stop thinking about it".  If only it was that easy.

I bought a book yesterday called "The Chimp Paradox" - it's early days but it explains about the emotional brain and how it works.
