How long?
« on: February 11, 2016, 10:33:08 AM »

Hi all, After 3 years of which I can only describe as he'll and a major breakdown last week I was advised by my GP to give HRT a go. I have been given Elleste Duet and have been taking it for just over a week. Mowt of my hot flushes have gone and I am sleeping better, but what I would like to know is does it help with the agitation and mood disorders  as I have had no improvement in them so far.  I am a Senior Carer in a residential care home , have been off work for 2 weeks and feel that my tolerance and patience levels have gone. How long can it take for them to return so's I can go back to work? Any advice is gratefully received.  Thanx

Hi and welcome Bigsis
Give it time - very early days yet.  I do think better quality sleep makes a difference to everything.  Do expect a bit of PMT before the withdrawal bleed - you can't expect to feel good every day but in about 3 months you may well feel you got your life back. Keep us posted.  DG x

Hello Bigsis and welcome to the forum.

I was period free for three years before I decided I needed HRT and I've used various types along the way. I can safely say that many things have improved since starting HRT but you do have to give it time to work it's magic.

Wishing you well and keep posting.

Thanx for your replies ladies x
Im into my 4th week of my HRT and things are slowly coming together. I'm not back at work yet and I'm feeling really guilty about that  as I feel my employer, who is female by the way is not very understanding and  thinks  I'm better off at work rather than being at home!!!!!!   I'm absolutely terrified at the thought of working alongside the elderly  incase I kick off.  I'm fine at home lol the hubby just clears out with the dog for a while x    :D

 :welcomemm:

Give yourself a break!  Hormone upheaval can make a lady feel as ill as any other condition!  Don't worry about how your work-colleagues appear, if all else fails tell them!!! undoubtedly in the care industry there is the worry about staff being off work so it may have a knock-on effect.

Once you get the HRT going you can (or not) tell them that tolerance is essential until you get sorted ;-).

Browse round.  Make notes …..

Hello Bigsis are you feeling any better after a few weeks on end Estelle Duet?  I started it in March 15 after intense flushes, palpitations, sleepless nights & sudden anxiety attacks.  I was shocked to go back to monthly bleeds after    over a year period free.  The flushes stopped immediately and I started sleeping better but the emotional side and anxiety has taken longer to get under control.  I would say it took 6 months for me to see a noticeable difference.  I still get mood swings and jitters/anxiety but not as intense and not as often.  In Jan 16 I switched to Estelle conti with no bleeds thankfully but I have noticed my moods seem more up and down after switching.  I am hoping this will settle.  I have found switching to decaf, reducing alcohol and doing meditation exercises have helped. I bought self help books on anxiety and have learnt some good techniques.  I find I cope less well with stress and more prone to anxiety if I'm tired.  I am really hoping things will improve as time goes on and I come out of the other side of the menopause!

Hiya,
Yes I'm feeling a lot better now. I too am back to having periods but I'm thinking it's a small price to pay for my sanity lol. I also get a feeling of relief, like I'm not so wound up when my period starts. I'm back at work as well as I found sitting about at home didn't help with the agitation whereas at work I can keep myself busy. My GP did say that things should keep improving  so I'm looking forward to that lol and she did also say that through time I might need to " move on" to a  different strength  of hrt. Overall I know it's only 2 months in but I really wish I had talked to my GP sooner  as suffering all that time, alienating everybody round about me and going through a breakdown was needless when the option of the hrt was there.  😃😆

Glad to hear you have noticed an improvement you were brave to hold out for so long before trying HRT.  I also find it easier at work as I'm so busy I don't have time to think about myself!  I am still not sure if the conti is making me feel down but I haven't been taking it that long.  My GP suggested switching as I was noticing dips in my mood when I was on the orange Estelle Duet tabs.  The orange tabs have a lower dose of hormones while the conti tabs are the same strength throughout the pack.
