Abnormal bleeding

Hi - I am 51 (next week) and have been having a period now for over a month - not heavy - light but still warranting sanitary wear, and still bleeding.

Obviously this isn't normal, but is it normal when entering the menopause, or do I need a doctors visit?

I have previously spoken to my doctor about HRT but haven't started on anything yet, as I was getting irregular periods prior to this, and the hot flushes, joint aches, brain fog etc., so clearly getting menopausal.

Every time I think its going to stop - it starts again - getting a bit fed up with it now to be honest.

Hi and welcome - Erratic and problematic bleeding is a typical symptom of the peri menopause phase.  It is worth talking to the doctor and getting things checked out - if for no other reason than peace of mind.  Do ask if there is a particular doctor in the practise who knows about treatment for the menopause.  HRT could help to control things especially if you are getting flushes etc.  They may want to do a scan just to check there aren't fibroids etc that are causing these problems.
Do read up all the info on this site to get really clued up.  Keep posting. DG x

Hi

I agree that you need to pop along to the GP.

Erratic bleeding can be common but persistent bleeding when you are not on HRT probably requires a scan.

Nothing to panic about but nice to be "checked out"  :)
