Progesterone blues
« on: February 29, 2016, 11:54:28 PM »

Just when I thought I had this all under control, I took a progesterone last night and felt horrible all day today. It felt like a hangover! My breakfast almost made me vomit. I was in a daze all day and could barely stay awake. I drank lots of water trying to flush it out. That's the first time the drowsiness has lasted more than a few hours after waking. To top it off, I looked at my calendar and I started the course almost a week early. Last month I was late starting it, and this time I counted from when I should have started last month, rather than from when I actually started. I hope that doesn't  cause any major issues. I'm going to stay the course now, but I was having a run of good days. It stinks that I could have gone a few more days without the progesterone ruining it!

It shouldn't cause problems other than what you have experienced.  It is known that progesterone can cause huge problems  :sigh:

Thank you CKLD! Today was much better. I believe I took the pill too late the first night and didn't sleep it off properly.

I sleep like a baby on it in the nights. But pray I don't have to get up in the night, as I may have to crawl! It hits me like one too many glasses of wine. It's best if I go to sleep as soon as I take it, and get a full night of sleep.

Can anyone out there help? I'm peri-menopausal and was put on Oestrogen only patches for two years.  I thought this wasn't quite right, but was told by my GP not to "rock the boat". To cut a long story short, I went to a specialist GP who put me on Utrogestan tablets as I had already tried the synthetic progesterone and reacted very badly to it. Unfortunately the Utrogestan gave me a very upset tummy, diahorrea and made me cry uncontrollably.  The GP told me to try the Mirena coil, and one week on, I am SO uncomfortable. Very nauseous, bad headaches, sore vagina and very sore anus (almost like nerve pain which I had when I tried the Utrogestan tablets).  I want the coil taken out asap, but now I don't know what options are left to me.  Without the oestrogen I feel even worse and blood tests confirmed that my oestrogen levels were very low.  Can anyone relate to this? Does anyone have any suggestions?  I am already dealing with very bad neck pain which is on going and causes me real anxiety and stress. (I've been off work for weeks). Help! Please!

Hi Brevis! I'm sorry you're having a hard time with the Mirena. I'm not sure what the alternatives are, but there are some women on this forum that are highly intolerant to progesterone that may have suggestions for you. I think you'll get a better response if you start a new thread in the All Things Menopause section so your question isn't overlooked on this old thread. I can't remember specifically who has experience with progesterone intolerance, but there are some active on here. Welcome!
