Do I need increased hrt dose?
« on: January 08, 2016, 02:15:40 PM »

Hello ladies,I on second month of evorel sequi have definitely had good effects e.g.sleep better ,less hot flushes, not as tired .gp advised to start with half a patch for the first month to see how I got on.not sure now if I should go up to a whole patch or keep on half?
Any advice ladies- I think it might be best to stay on the same dose but last week flushes were increasing wondering if this will go if I increase the dose.Just to add I'm 49 and have had 3years of hot flushes so premenopausal.

Given your flushes are increasing again, half a patch doesn't seem to be enough. Perhaps now is the time to go up to a whole patch.

How about going for three quarters of a patch, or two thirds? (three quarters might be a bit tricky to cut!) i'm sure some might say go straight for the whole patch and I'm sure this would be fine, but on the basis that the standard is to go for the lowest recommended dose, maybe just increase gradually to the level that suits you best.

Personally I would go for the whole patch (but as Sunnydays says why not experiment - and just cut a corner off a full patch for a while and see how you go) as it's still not a very high dose and especially if your flushes are creeping back.

When I stopped HRT a few years back (gosh it was 5 years ago!!) for 3 months, and then went back on it as symptoms returned, the doc suggested 25 mcg to start with (ie half patch). This worked for a while and I thought great! However flushes crept back so went back up to the previous dose of 50 mcg which I have been on ( almost) ever since. 12.5 mcg ( ie 1/4 patch) is such a negligible amount to increase by - unless you are extremely sensitive.

Also as you are in cyclical HRT you are not taking the synthetic progestogen all the time. It is the women on Evorel conti all the time that sometimes find anxiety is increased and think it's due to too much oestrogen - which is extremely unlikely - it is the synthetic progestogen which can cause problems.  If it's suiting you then great! let's hope that continues :)

I was on a 50mcg Estrodot Oestrogen only patch but the flushes  were returning so the gp put it up to 75 this I found made me feel very on edge so I have been cutting a small bit off started off fine but Im on the end of the third month now and the flushes back again I just cant win !
