Hi ladies- I've been trialling a longer cycle, using estradot 75 patch for 8 weeks before using utrogestan 200 vaginally to bring on the bleed. Was going really well, due to start utrogestan on 31st December. However started a bleed on 30th December which has been a 'full bleed' and still going full on 4 days later.
Basically, do I still need to take utrogestan this 2-month cycle seeing as I've had a bleed or can I just continue with the estradot for another 6 ish weeks? I haven't used utro yet as I use it vaginally and bleed is heavy so kind of waiting for it to stop.....any advice really appreciated. Many thanks xx

If you are seeing a gynae then I would seek advice. 
I'm afraid this can be the problem with a long cycle.  I had spotting and bleeding when I tried doing a 6 week cycle - I used less oestrogen than you are using and I suspect your womb lining may have built up more so could produce this bleed.  If you are peri meno then your own hormones may well be having an influence.  I am no expert but you should maybe still start the Utro (perhaps orally to start with) - do a full 12-14 days and hope that the lining sheds properly.  DG x

Hi - as Dancinggirl says it depends on where in menopause you are.
If you are well post-menopause (eg 2 + years) and getting an early bleed on a long cycle it indicates that either you have something amiss eg fibroid or polyp which could cause a bleed, or your lining is getting over-thickened and spontaneously shedding without progesterone ( oestrogen breakthrough bleeding).

If you are peri - as Dancinggirl says your own hormones could be kicking in.

Depending on where you are I would probably take the course as planned - just to make sure, but possibly start now, and see if you have further bleeding at the end of the course

Then consult your gynae or doc for advice?

This luzxles me too. Before Xmas, I went for 33 days just wearing Estradot 50mg and not taking any Utro. But I still had a period on day 34, only lasted 2.5 days but was fairly medium flow with some cramps.

Am now on Femoston 1/10 but wondering why I need progesterone when I'm producing enough of my own to cause a bleed each month?

If you get a bleed without taking progesterone it doesn't necessarily mean you are producing progesterone - it is more likely to be the build up of the womb lining or possibly polyps or fibroids playing up - Hurdity has already explained this. A progesterone phase of at least 10-12 days is necessary to enable the womb lining to shed properly or more erratic/problematic bleeding is likely to occur. DG x

Am in agreement with the above ladies, I also tried long cycle and would randomly start bleeding, it was not because I was producing Progesterone,  my lining was over thick at sometimes 7mm, had to go onto a mthly cycle of a lower dose of Utro but keeping it regular, it really helped to thin my lining down to 3mm at last check in Dec....but it would depend are you peri or post? I really feel its wiser to bite the bullet for fewer days per mth and use the lower dose of 100 for say 12 days than to try and long cycle. Have you had a scan to see what the lining looks like?

Hi ladies- apologies for delay in thanking you all for your replies. I'm very grateful😗
Cassie no I haven't had a scan to check lining - my last internal scan was about 6 months ago. I'm on Nhs who are brilliant but won't do scans ..... I started the utrogestan last night (even tho still slight bleed 7 days later...) as I feel I need to try to follow the regime for longer to see if things settle. The good thing is I've had no pain whatsoever with this bleed.....but will see what happens in 2 1/2 weeks when the 'proper' one starts. Thinking my max of oestrogen only May be 6 weeks each time which I think is what Hurdity does? Guess will be trial and error for a few cycles!
