Oh Autumn - you have another clueless GP.  If you look at the NHS Choices website it now says that long term treatment with local Oestrogen is often necessary to alleviate VA etc.  The 10mg dose is very low so is unlikely to maintain things for many women.  Good to see a gynae though for peace of mind. Why does she say you have to stop it?

My GP is happy for me to use the Vagifem five times a week as that is equal to the old dose, she has several ladies doing that apparently.

I am truely shocked that most GP's don't keep up to date on the current guidelines.

I now see a meno specialist and she told me that using Vagifem every day for a year was equivalent to taking ONE oral HRT tablet.

Absolutely Autumn - definitely do not stop the Vagifem! VA is a permanent condition and will return when you stop. Great that you are being referred to a specialist but do keep on with the Vagifem,. In fact why not increase the frequency yourself while waiting for the specialist and if it works you can tell your GP this when you need to order more!

What does she mean that only oestrogen can help? Vagifem is oestrogen!!!! I too am shocked by the ignorance - which we continually encounter on here from women's GPs.
