Hello!
« on: December 21, 2015, 07:42:18 PM »

Hi all. I joined this forum today after yet another night of little sleep. I've already read some of the other comments and it is such a relief to know that others are going through what I am.
My symptoms are mainly anxiety, a lack of self esteem and confidence, tiredness and forgetfulness and basically not exactly feeling depressed but feeling flat! I have always been a fairly relaxed, easy going and happy person whereas now I struggle to get excited and enthusiastic about things. I tend to wake up about 4 in the morning and cannot get back to sleep. I can't actually remember the last time I had a full nights sleep. I am 45 and most of my friends sympathise but really don't understand.
I am currently being prescribed Femoston 1/10mg which seems to help with night sweats and hot flushes but I would love to hear about possible alternatives including non HRT.
Any comments gratefully received and thank you for helping me to realise this is not just me!

:welcomemm: Clare3 - yours is an all too familiar story. This morning I was awake at stupid o'clock... again, with a pool of sweat between my boobs. Nice!!

How long have you been on HRT? It can take a while for things to settle down. I'm still settling in with an increase in my patch dose.

There's lots of great information in the green tabs at the top of the screen and there's loads of lovely knowledgeable ladies on here ready to help you with any questions you have or even just lend a sympathetic shoulder to cry on.

Hi Clare3, I share those symptoms too.

Suffered for years before finding my way here.  Now on AD's for the mood thing, and I also take Valarien based sleepers from that auction site we all know, that mean I finally get some sleep.  Still often waking at 5/5.30am but better than every hour as it was.

Hi Galadriel. I've been on HRT for just under 12 months. I started on Prempak C but that didn't work at all well for me. Have been on Femoston for about 6 months.
Thanks for the advice SadLynda and boxer heaven. I'd love to know what your positive things are too.  I'll have a look into the Valerian tablets if the Kalms nights don't work.
It's really great to get some advice as to what works for some. :)

Hi Clare3

 :welcomemm:

Glad to hear you are feeling better generally on the Femoston.

If you are thinking about alternatives to HRT there is a whole section on this site about this here (Treatments tab - and subtabs above): http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/remedies.php but most herbal and other remedies do not have strong evidence to support their use. There is also a section on the forum on alternatives to HRT but some of the threads/posts are not really relevant and some go off at a bit of a tangent  ::).  In any case at your age HRT is the best thing you can be taking to help protect your future health.

There are many lifestyle factors that are beneficial though: http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/diet.php Many of us at this time have made changes to our diet and lifestyle, some of which have been shown through studies to minimise the impact of menopause and also have health benefits ie healthy diet using fresh ingredients and cutting sugars, refined/processed foods and excess fat, taking more exercise, maintaining weight in healthy BMI range, limiting alchohol, stopping smoking, reducing stress, having a positive outlook ...
