Interesting to hear how you manage your business, Breadfruit, though it wouldn't work for me.  If I put my rates up I would lose all my customers as there are a lot of people who have taken early retirement and offer gardening very cheap since they only need to top up their pension, not earn a living.  And I'm single, so have no other income coming in!  I had 7 amazing years before peri kicked in though, so I am very grateful for that time.

Apologies...have gone off topic  ;D

Dorothy, I thought exactly the same as you. Its a mental trap!!! Some very successful gardeners told me to do this and it works beautifully! Also some retireds do not have the same overheads like young couples have, like huge mortgages, credit cards and loans, car leases or loans, fancy holidays etc.
Dont believe just because someone is retired they have no money. Yes some do but not all. And dont worry about the competition. The customers chose YOU over them.
Just find one new customer at the higher rate and then do this:

1. Make a list of all your customers, starting with the best customer at the top (best prompt payer, nice easy garden, distance etc.). And the worst customer at the bottom (the one you dont mind losing).
2. Then put your newest highest rate customer to the top of the list.
3. Tell your worst customer that you have to put up the rate (you can go even higher than the new customer).
4. If the worst customer says "NO", then say ok and walk away.
5. You have one new higher paying customer.

Then repeat the whole process again. Find a new customer paying higher rate and start with the next worse customer of yours.

Simples!

Hurdity

I think you and your son are right. I have not gone shopping for sweet stuff and had no sugary stuff and my cravings have gone down quite a bit.

I have also started to drink a lot more and that has helped as well.

Also my belly seems flatter (ish).

I have not yet started with any exercise. My knee is troubling me somewhat.

Who told you not to grab a banana  >:( - it's natural sugar so the body processes it differently to hidden sugars ……… because bananas are slow release as it porridge, they can help ease that sudden hunger/nausea.

I was reading a cycling magazine in the bath last night and there's a receipe for home made 'snacks' ……… fruity ones.  If I remember  ::)

fasting may not be for everyone, certainly not for me because i am already underweight, but i noticed that my symptoms are reduced by sticking to a a high protein, low carb diet. I was a vegetarian, had a very healthy diet but  used to eat a lot of grains, which made me feel bloated and sluggish. Then i started introducing fish, eggs and some hard cheese to my diet and feel a lot better. I still don't eat any meat, sugar or processed food, but cutting down on grains made a great difference to my energy levels. I eat some brown rice, buckwheat, millet and barley, but in smaller quantities than before. When i cook rice i add lentils or split peas, so i am actually eating more pulses than grains.

Merry Christmas!

Well just a quick update. I am drinking a lot more and hope to be able to keep it up. It really has helped with the hunger feelings.
It also helped over Christmas. So thank you very much for this tip.
