Some women do seem to get stomach problems with oral HRT - if this continues to be a problem then transdermal (patch or gel) might be the way to go?

From this site:

http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/route.php

Indications for non-tablet route.

    Individual preference.
Poor symptom control with tablet HRT.
Side effects such as nausea with tablet.
Bowel disorder which may affect absorption of tablet therapy.
History of migraine (when steadier hormone levels which may be achieved with a patch may be beneficial).
Lactose sensitivity (all tablet preparations of HRT contain lactose).
    History of gallstones.
Current use of medications such as anti-epileptic medication which may interfere with the break-down of tablet HRT.
    Variable blood pressure.
    High triglyceride levels.
Risk factors, family history or past history of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolus, after full discussion and specialist advice when necessary.

I had digestive problems while taking oral HRT, I think it is a common side effect.  Like Hurdity, I would suggest trying a transdermal HRT if it continues, they have fewer side effects and generally work better.  I have Gilbert Syndrome which was definitely aggravated by oral HRT but since switching to the transdermal gel, blood tests have revealed that the GS has improved and also my cholesterol has reduced significantly.

In the meantime and while you decide what to do next, you might want to try taking magnesium tablets every day, they can be very effective and help the overall digestive system, including constipation.

Do go easy on the magnesium though - this is from the NHS website:

How much magnesium do I need?
The amount of magnesium you need is:

•   300mg a day for men
•   270mg a day for women
You should be able to get all the magnesium you need from your daily diet.

What happens if I take too much magnesium?
Taking high doses of magnesium (more than 400mg) for a short time can cause diarrhoea.
There is not enough evidence to say what the effects might be of taking high doses of magnesium for a long time.

What does the Department of Health advise?
You should be able to get all the magnesium you need by eating a varied and balanced diet. If you take magnesium supplements, don't take too much, because this could be harmful.
Having 400mg or less a day of magnesium from supplements is unlikely to cause any harm.

Personally for constipation I would go for figs, prunes or a good curry, and then go for a run  ;D!!!
