Interesting find on GP website
« on: November 19, 2015, 12:54:12 PM »

Was having a look at my GP website & couldn't believe what I saw. A subsection for ladies of a certain age, which linked to Patient UK site about meno related stuff & the new NICE guidelines. Do you think this will bode well for my appointment in 10 days time? I do hope so. Mind you don't suppose it guarantees that GPs will have read the guidelines. Time will tell.

I have found it on Patient UK.

My GP just has information about not opening the door to scammers and how not to fall down.  :(

Dahliagirl, "How not to fall down" what were the answers pray tell? Mine would be, in no particular order:
Look where you're going
Put more water in it next time  ;)
No loose rugs or wiring
But all that is common sense surely.
As for not opening door to scammers, you don't know they're scammers until you open the door.

Here it is  ;D  Information for Mature Patients.

People are living longer and have a right to expect the highest possible quality of life.  But it's a sad fact that falls among older people are very common.  And so many of these falls can be prevented.

Here are some simple steps to follow:
Regular physical activity.
Regular gentle exercise.
Tai Chi has been shown to improve balance and reduce risk of falls (but check that the teacher is experienced in working with older people).
Restricting your activity because of a past falls or fear of a fall may increase your changes of another.
Many problems after a fall are due to the “long lie” when somebody cannot get up, even if they have not injured themselves.
Use an alarm pendant, especially if you live alone.
When you get out of bed or off the chair it's a good idea
to do it in slow stages.

Have regular eye check ups and foot care – home visits may be available.
Ask you GP about getting a “flu jab” illness like flu can make you prone to falling.
If you need to go to the toilet in the night, never use a torch – turn the light on and if necessary use a walking aid.  If you are feeling unwell – tell a friend or a neighbour

Well that's amazing cubagirl!

I didn't even know our GP practice had a website but just had a look and tried to find something similar and found a section entitled "Your Health" which looked promising. It had 3 subsections - Family Health, Lomg Term Conditions and Minor Illness. When I clicked on each one of these - what did I get? "No content" written on each of these pages :(. Time for some action I think! I just sent them a message asking them when they were going to put the content in!

Thanks for letting us know about this cubagirl!

just been to look, nothing on my new surgery website.  I have my first appointment on December 2nd, so we can compare notes then CG.  There was earlier ones at mine, but not the right time to fit in with work/parent commitments.  I am hoping the new guidelines might be good, or at least remind 'some' GP's the condition exists as my last two practices seemed to be oblivious to the fact.
