I'm sorry to read this but not completely surprised.

Women still tend to be the main carers having to help with grandchildren and look after elderly parents which can be very stressful when you are expected to work until 66, as a previous poster has said 65 was bad enough but then it was suddenly increased to 66 which was a double whammy.

I work in a very fast paced environment so I'm hoping to do another couple years and then retire although I'll still have to wait another couple of years for my state pittance.

If the Tories get their way in the election, they plan to raise the pension age further to 75. It would affect anyone born after March 6th 1961 and before April 1977. Fortunately I can still access part of my work pension from 60 but would then have to wait to 75 for the rest.

You might want to read up a bit too.  I was referring to David Cameron when he bought the dates forward at short notice in 2010.  Also the first legislation was actually passed by a Tory government in 1995. And I forgot, Cameron also increased the qualifying years from 30 to 35..

Hello ladies.

I was born in 1956 so the changes to pension age were relevant to me.  I was fortunate because I didn't need to work which is just as well given my problems with the menopause. I feel sorry for women like my S in L who had no choice but to work and found it very hard going.

As for the election and the promises of the various political parties I think I will stick to a simple rule of thumb:- consider who has been running the country for the past nine years and decide if I want more of the same.

I went to a baby shower the other day with loads of young Mums and a few older ladies like myself.  the young Mums are all local girls who have jobs like beauty therapists, hairdressers, shop assistants, school kitchen assistant, waitresses etc so they are not high earners but we discussed our current situations and it was generally agreed that we all had quite a nice standard of living. 

They all take holidays, mostly abroad, they have cars and are able to take their kids off to theme parks, weekends away or to various paid clubs and activities. Many were well ahead of me, having already bought ALL their Xmas presents.  They get free nursery hours and the younger ones get free school meals.  Nail extensions, hair streaks, microbladed eyebrows, they can all afford those. 

They seem to be able to afford a lot more than I could at their age.  I couldn't afford to take foreign holidays until I reached 40.  We got no free nursery places and no free school meals. There were no top ups if you were on a low wage and as for buying Xmas presents I used to have to buy second hand lego and knit dolls clothes and toys for them when they were small.  Theme parks and weekends away never featured in our life.  As for all the beauty stuff, no way could I have afforded to treat myself.

I consider myself comfortably off and can just buy anything I fancy and most of my friends are the same.  many own homes in France or Spain as well as their main home.  I get a bus pass, free prescriptions and eye tests and a winter fuel payment.  Lots of places give Senior Citizens discounts. 

Life could be a lot worse for many of us.

Did anybody see the car crash interview last night with Andrew Neil interviewing Jeremy Corbyn.  On the question of giving £58 Billion to compensate women re: pensions, Corbyn refused time and time again to say where he is going to get this money from.  If any woman votes for him because she believes we will get paid back then she is totally deluded.  he hasn't got the money it's as simple as that, but he wants our votes.  Well he isn't getting mine.

ah but in Santa Corbyn's magic advent calendar TODAY is another grand gift! he has pledged to plant
2 BILLION trees by 2040!!  This isn't a joke!!  Someone much better at maths than me estimated that this would require 300,000 trees to be planted every DAY  or 200 every MINUTE working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Maybe these are all going to be magic money trees. 😂😂😂
I seriously question his sanity now because each day he comes out with something more outrageous than the day before.
