Hi

ive got my appointment today and looking for any advice/suggestions as feel a bit clueless... its nearly 3 months now on the 1mg oestrogen only... told to stop the progrsteone due to severe intolerance.. im 44 and peri.. physical symptoms improved - no flushes, sleeping, not as tired... libido back to normal. -  psychologically... mood lifted..but def not completely , anxiety still here but background... mood swings still not great either... still feel a bit of control with my moods -  obviously i cant stay on oestrogen only and this appointment is to look at alternatives... the worse case senario is hysterectomy... can anyone suggest any alternatives? when i took the progestrone in the elleste it was awful...racing heart.. high blood pressure... catching my breath, aniexty through the roof... morbid thoughts... thank you in advance :-) x

Hi...when I was using Oestrogel HRT I had a problem with progesterone, but
I found just 2.5mg of Northisterone for five days out of a month was enough to give me a bleed. Luckily without side effects. Maybe discuss with doc.

Thank you Orchid ,  im just terrified of the progestrone element.. ive still been having a bleed on the oestrogen only x

The two things that spring to mind are Utrogestan (which is bio identical) taken vaginally (far fewer side effects) or else the Mirena. I wouldn't consider a hysterectomy until you have at least tried these.

Thanks Briony :-)  well basically consultant happy with how im doing on the ellestw 1mg oesteogen only.. he said we only need to look at hsyterectomy / other peogestrone options..once my periods stop, as i am quite regular now so producing enough of my own... told him hot flushes stopped, sleeping etc..  but mood not quite a 100 %.. took my sister in with me... who said he looked at me as if to say " well youve got a full face of make up on and very composed...ie no tears.. "  .... so i suppose logically thinking it is working... as my sis said 6 weeks ago i was in floods of tears.. basically what he said was why change something that is working... i asked about gels etc... he said would persribe if i wanted.. but he quite happy with how i am on this one... asked if needed blood test... again said no... he goes by what his patients tell him and their symptoms... not off hormone levels... see him again in 3 months !  so all in all quite positve and encouraging... lifted my confidence in myself :-) xx

That sounds good LW44! There are also other HRT types with different progestogen which many women find have fewer side effects - such as Femoston. The progestogen in this one is very similar to our own natural progesterone. So - there are many options before considering hysterectomy!

I am still surprised he is happy for you to continue without progestogen but if he says you're producing a lot of your own then presumably that's OK. It may mean that your periods are heavier and certainly when you start missing them on cycles where you don't ovulate the extra oestrogen will defo make them heavier I would have thought - but I presume he has all that under control!

Is this a consultant through a meno clinic on NHS or is he a private chap?

Anyway great you are feeling more confident - the things is with HRT most of use don't get our old self back - for some of us this is impossible especially when cycles stop - but end up feeling much much better on the HRT than before so that has to be a good thing!

thanks hurdity - yr right just feel better.. but not my old self..
just feel like im tip toeing through the anxiety but its not all comsuming... i work at a private hospital luckily so have insurance.. he is a gynea consultant.. it was quite funny really.. id shaved my legs painted my toenails.. ready for my intetnal scan .. practically rolled my sleeve up for my blood tests....and he just chatted to me....asked me a some questions and sent me on my way....see him again in three months..
i walked away thinking " oh im ok .." and breathed a big sigh of relief..:-) xx
