something to look forward to !
« on: August 31, 2015, 12:21:57 PM »

Well after returning from Snowdonia last weekend I had to give in to the dream of living there anytime soon reluctantly,DH not yet ready to walk away from a good job which he loves !  :-\
However I have managed to come up with a compromise to which he agrees ! We are going to look into buying a house there for us to use every 6/8weeks until he finally decides he wants to quit the ratrace permanently, which if it goes ahead I know he will find it hard to resist!  ;D
The only downside,if you can call it that,is no more holidays abroad which I don't really mind as been most places,oh and the ones already booked ofcourse  ;)
No more concerts and theater trips etc but I'll be one step closer to my dream and you can't have everything.
It'll give me something nice and positive to focus on so fingers crossed for me ladies !

That sounds absolutely fab - I'm jealous, I want to move to Exmoor, you're a lot closer to your dream than I am, so good luck!

we could have moved 10 years ago when we had the capital but were not brave enough to take the risk.  We regret it now and wish we had done so.

Don't have regrets if you have the means to realise your dreams

Buying a 4x4 should be in the idea …… Snowdonia can be treacherous in the Winter  ;)
We had our first 'honeymoon' in Llanberis  :-X  :P
The reason we haven't moved back to mid-Wales is because our current hobbies don't happen there, i.e. antique fairs etc..  We miss the Coast SO much.

GO for it - make sure there is a large lawn to park our camper on ;)  ;D

Do remember though that there can be opposition to people buying 'holiday' homes [come home to a real fire, buy a cottage in Wales].  Check out the Hospital facilities too ……. when we seriously thought about buying on Skye, it would have been a long drive to Inverness!

I love this thread, Dazned.  Your plans sound idyllic, and I really hope it all works out well for you.   :)
I'm also about to start my own dream-come-true ball rolling, so I have an inkling as to how you must be feeling.  Do you mind if I post mine here?
In December, I'm going to play a wonderful organ concerto in a concert with a lovely orchestra who I've played with before, though in a less soloistic role.  I just can't wait to put all my practising efforts together with them when we rehearse.  I've done orchestral playing before, as a second-study viola-player, and I used to love that.  Now, being able to bring the two sound-worlds of organ and orchestra together, on a lovely instrument in a lovely acoustic, will be a total treat for me.  I've dreamt about this sort of thing for long enough and now it's actually happening.
I think we all need something to look forward to.  We're allowed to dream, so why not turn our dreams into reality?

.. so why not ……… anxiety  :-\

In the 1990s we almost bought a luxury caravan/mobile-type home at Clarach …… but the journey would take too long, we were both working so it wasn't a case of hopping away for the weekend.  It wouldn't have got the use for the cost.  It is a nice site overlooking Cardigan Bay with dolphins in the water …..

Good idea BJ!  You don't want to be on top of a tor I take it? Did you get as far as looking?

S x

No tor thank you although hubby would probably like to climb one.  Yes, we looked, several times but our family asked us to stay where we are for now as we are very central to all of them. Now hubby is semi retired we are having to live on our savings so don't have the capital now. We could do it but we wouldn't have anything to live on.

think everyone has to have something to look forward to, tbh.
Mine is a dream to retire in France. Low pressure weather in England (most days  :() bring on horrible symptoms for me, which go away in sunny weather.
The place I lived in before was our choice, although our best friends there are terminally ill, or possibly moving away in the next 5 years. It's also got very expensive to get there on Ryanair. Nice to dream though although it's meant we didnt' buy a house here in London when we could've afforded one as we thought we'd buy in France....which never happened.

Sounds ideal. My dream is to move back to Inverness. We only spent 3 & a bit years there but any time we've been back, it feels like home. Ideally would like to live just on the outskirts a place called Abriachan overlooking Loch Ness. Beautiful there. Hope all your dreams come true dazned!

Oh how exciting for you. We're in the process of buying a holiday home too having thought about it for a few years. It's quite scary as we've always tried to save our money but with no kids it makes sense to use it for something we'll enjoy.
