Sorry to hear this LW44. I have never taken tablet HRT so can't comment here - and I'm sure others will be along who take it.
However just to say that it is sometimes hard to get the right balance when you are peri-menopausal because your own hormones are so up and down - some of which can lead to low mood - and it could well be that the HRT is preventing you from feeling worse! Also maybe the norethisterone (in the Elleste) doesn't suit you - it can sometimes give rise to side effects in some women. If you think this might be the case and the feelings don't disappear, perhaps you could try changing to a different type for example Femoston - which contains a progestogen that is more easily tolerated as it is closer to natural progesterone?
I can't remember how old you are or where in meno but the only other way you can tame the hormone fluctuations is by taking a combined contraceptive pill - there is one called Qlara which contains the same oestrogen as our bodies make ( ie bio-identcial estrdaiol) but also large doses of a different synthetic progestogen. There are only 2 ( or is it 3 ) tablet free days so the hormone dips are not so bad.

It's HORMONES
…….. up and down which influences how we feel. Your GP will probably offer you anti-depressants. But ask for something to ease anxiety surges, there is plenty on the market

Hi
Just wanted to say our symptoms sound identical. But I've been struggling with them for nearly 2 years now. They arrived completely out of the blue but at the same time as I noticed my periods were getting much lighter and my cycle was slightly shorter.
Since then I have really been in my knees with horrible anxiety and intermittent low mood. I also get insomnia too which I have never had before. It has wreaked my life though I manage to hide most of it from everyone.
I have been on HRT for over 4 months. Started on 25 mg Estradot with separate Utrogestan for 12 days each month. But after 5 weeks I felt no better so my consultant upped my dose to 50mg patch.
Since then I have noticed a real improvement but I am still getting awful mood swings. These mood dips can last several days or even a week and they are awful and ruin my life.
I think because I am only 44 and was still dealing with my own hormones that HRT isn't strong enough to control my mood sufficiently. I am now thinking of swapping to the Pill as I know this knocks your own hormonal cycle on the head.
I don't know what else to try or do. When I'm feeling good I feel so great. But the lows are still so horrible too.

hi
sounds scarily familiar and awful... i know exactly what you mean... no outside reason for it... makes it so much harder.. ive just had an awful time on the norethistrone tabs which are part of the elleste duet i take..went to see consultant at work.. work in private hospital... he told me to stop taking immediately as intolerant... this was after dr said to carry on ! made my anx through the roof...and very very scary lows... :-/ told me to jusy take the eostrogen and go back to see him on tuesday for proper consultation... thank god for the perk of private healthcare... feel low now dispairing... so i sympathise completely... xxx

Once the hormone leaves your system your mood should lift. Also, Tuesday will soon be here for your next appt.
Rest, keep busy, keep posting!

It's awful isn't it? It feels like despair and dread mixed together. So much worse than just 'feeling a bit fed up'. I don't think anyone can understand unless they have experienced it for them self.
I'm so sorry you have reacted so badly to the progesterone part of your HRT. Have you considered seeing your GP tomorrow and asking for diazepam to help you over the weekend?
I will be interested to read what your consultant has to say to you on Tuesday.

That's in the future though ? Valium helps as necessary. I took 5mg for years ……… helped enormously!
