Are my pains to do with my perimeno???
« on: July 20, 2015, 10:22:07 AM »

Good Morning,
I have a hospital appointment this coming Wednesday for my hip, the pain which is burning/ sharp  has been constant since about March, I have arthritis in both Knees( the joys of Irish dancing!) so just thought it would be that in my hip, I have been limping and I am finding it hard to walk any great distance, but after finding this amazing site and reading all the stories I am now wondering if it can be my Peri meno? I have had symptoms for a couple months now although if I think back it may have reared it head a year or so ago, I am 45 and only take EPO, Vit B6, a micro pill which stops my periods ( they were really bad most of my life) begins with N but can't remember the name and Vitamins.
If it is due to the menopause will it get better? and going to hospital will it help?
Sorry still very green about all this and I don't mean to ask very obvious questions but I have no older females left in my family to ask.
 Thanks again you lovely ladies

Hi and welcome to MM sandeevie
There could be a number issues going on here.  If you already have some arthritis then your hip joints could be suffering the same fate.  As you are on progesterone you won't really know when your menopause is happening unless you start to get flushes and other meno symptoms.  Having an assessment of your hips at the hospital is a good idea - it could be a good idea to have a bone density scan done as well. I would also have some bloods done at the GP to see if your oestrogen levels are low - if your oestrogen is low and your FSH in high this would indicate menopause -  at 45 some HRT might be advisable to protect your bones. 45 is too young to be oestrogen deficient.
Wear on our joints is inevitable as we get older and if you did a lot of dancing then this can make it worse but being low on oestrogen can exacerbate the problems and I'm afraid it won't get better as you get older.
Do read up all the info on this site and get really clued up.  DG x

Hi

I've had hip pain for about 4 years now on and off, my pelvis is not level (one leg @1.5cm shorter) and I remember talking with my dad, who'd had a hip replacement saying its hurts on the outside but also in the groin, he said that's how his was.  I can go months with no pain then it'll all start up again, I've never got mine checked out but it'll be interesting to hear what they say, I hope it goes ok for you

Good Afternoon Ladies
I went to Hospital on Wednesday and after all the prodding and everything else they have confirmed I have OA in my hip but they think I also have torn nerves in my lower back hence the amount of pain, I have to wait for a MRI in the next SIX WEEKS to confirm! I have to admit I have never heard of torn nerves but we will see, according to the doctor I saw my Peri could have made it more apparent and it is better to have it diagnosed now so we can keep an eye on my bones as I go through it all.
So I have an answer of sorts and light at the end of the tunnel Thank you for all your support and advise as always

I have hernaited discs in my lumbar spine and the pressure on the spine nerves can give me alot of hip and groin pain but this is from my spine and not my hips. It can be very difficult  to work out where the pain is coming from if you have OA in your hips anyway.  The mri will tell them if you have any disc problems in your lumbar spine which could be contributing to your level of pain.

HOpe your scan comes through sooner than 6 weeks!
