What colour is your urine?  Any lighter than straw coloured and you are drinking too much.  You also aren't going often enough so how about setting an alarm for every 60/70 minutes?  Annoying though if you are dropping off for a doze  ::).

I'm off to take a cuppa into the shade to watch the gold fish …… so don't think I'm ignoring you!

Have a nice cuppa. It's light. I think it's too long but because I hurt afterwards I leave it. It just strange I don't get the normal signal. Only the pain low down gets more pressure

Anyone else with VA or irritated bladder/urethra

Think I've got mechanical urethritis from the cystoscopy. Don't know exactly what that means just saw it as a problem with custoscopies. So next step......anti biotics, steroid cream, oestrogen to give it a chance to heal? Very sore tonight. Did a little bit of yoga......not a good idea. Good for relaxation but not good for urethra.....

Hello I have had blood in my wee the last two times. I will see if there's some in the morning. It has only happened that I know of today & the cysoscopy was 9 days ago

It's 2.30 am this pain isn't right.  I've taken pain killers but there not knocking it. It doesn't make me want to go to the toilet. It's a sharp, raw feeling. Whatever the consultant says I have not experienced these symptoms prior to the camera. Something has happened. I want to go to a&he again but they'll just send me away.

Hi Peterspot - does it feels though someone has put in a catheter that is made of sand paper?  My theory is the urethra becomes swollen and sore having reacted to being really hot or bacteria from our vagina or back passage getting in there.  If that is the feeling then I've had this on a number of occasions and this was prior to having a cystoscopy. There was one night when I was in terrible pain and was peeing blood - I had stupidly washed my hair in the shower before bed and shampoo had passed over my intimate area as I washed it out - this always aggravates my urethra because of the perfume. I went straight to my GP the next morning after this terrible episode and my urine was tested and a sample sent off to the lab for testing but there was no infection detected. My urine was tested a few times after that and evidence of blood was still present so this is why they sent my for the cystoscopy.  Like you, they reassured me my bladder was fine and no cancer found but they stretched my urethra, as the urologist said it sometimes helps with the pain. I think the theory is that the urethra can tighten or collapses thereby making it less likely to pass urine properly and possible becoming more sensitive. The urologist said they were not sure why women get this horrible burning in the urethra but it could be scarring or interstitial cystitis(a diagnosis which I think means they 'don't know what it is').  Anyway, after the stretching (which was pretty ghastly to have done) I did find I was peeing more efficiently for a a couple of weeks afterwards but this didn't last.  I now just make sure I empty my bladder properly each time and use Multi Gyn Actigel after my shower each day, local oestrogen twice a week (Vagifem) and I started back on low dose systemic HRT as well - this combination has reduced symptoms significantly.  I do find getting too hot around that area can trigger things, I try not to sit down for to long and avoid anything perfumed or harsh (like normal soap) around my intimate areas.
I do think the idea of a deep seated infection in the bladder is highly likely and hopefully the specialist doing the research on this will publish soon to help bring in better treatment.
For you at this stage local oestrogen is likely to help the situation but please know you are not alone with this and it's unlikely to be just because of the cystoscopy, although it may have triggered a more extreme reaction.  I'm sure it will settle but unfortunately this pain makes one tense which will exacerbate the situation.  Try to put your feet up, keep cool, try some frozen pees wrapped in a clean tea towel between your legs, drink some bicarb a couple of times a day and actively relax your pelvic floor. BTW - do avoid any acidic food or drinks for the time being as well - even tea or coffee can aggravate.  Keep us posted DG x

Thank you & about the anti spasmodics. I am having a problem dealing with the urethral pain.   It may have been there but I have never bad it.  If I had not experienced the pain I'm I would never had looked on the Internet or found this site. I had cystoscopies about 20 years with no ill effects. The burning so awful & I can't sleep. It's just not easing

I'm sorry to hear you're still suffering Peterspots. Did you try drinking the bicarbonate solution? That usually eases the urethral pain after the first pee. IT neutralises the urine so that it doesn't sting the irritated urethra. If you haven't already tried it, try it today. The other thing that I find helps with the urethral pain is running cool water over my bits whilst peeing. Trust me! It works.

I have had the exact same problem for many years. I've had all tests going (scans, urogram, cystoscopy etc) and nothing was ever found. Urine cultures usually come back showing no infection but I get the urethral pain and the bladder spasms. It is an awful pain to have. I personally believe that my urethra is just very sensitive and bacteria (from back passage, sex etc) causes irritation there then the body thinks something is wrong and causes my bladder to spasm and remove the infection/irritant. I now bottle wash after every bowel movement rather that relying on toilet tissue alone and I pee and wash after sex too. It has made a huge difference. I still have occasional problems but nothing like I used to.

I think that the cystoscopy has irritated your already irritated urethra. Try the self help tips for the next few days - you've been given lots of good advice on this post - and, if it's no better, see your GP.

Thank you. I will make a list of all the things to do to get over this or make good choice.  I have been admitted to hospital today for a scan tomorrow & some pain relief. The morphine is pretty fine
