Limpy - it can stay in for up to 3 years with the average being 2 years as the battery will run out after approx 3 years. Basically when I next get one of my funny heartbeat/feeling faint attacks ( I hope its soon!) then they can see exactly what my heart was doing and if its something that needs treatment or not and I then get clinic appt and go and find results.  If its something harmless then they can remove the recorder but if its something that needs treatment of any kind they do the treatment and leave the recorder in to make sure its cured it.
I can't say I like having this alien being in the edge of my left breast and it will cause problems when my mamo becomes due in Oct this year but at the end of the day its better to find out what my funny heartbeat attacks are just in case it is something harmful.

It can't be nice having it there, but it will be possible for any funny heart episodes to be picked up.

My OH had a heart problem (palpitations) early on this year. Before it was diagnosed, it was difficult getting him to A&E to get an ECG when they did happen. Eventually they gave him a 48 hour monitor (the type that's stuck on) did he have any palps while he had that. er no, total waste of time. 

At least your problems will be recorded even if it ain't pleasant.
I hope everything gets sorted out for you soon.

This is exactly the reason they have implanted the recorder because despite numerous 3 day external monterings everytime they do it I do not have an attack. I do have lots of harmless flips and blips and they are hoping that the attacks are just longer versions of these harmless ones.

I wasn't getting anywhere with local cardiologist but my Gp referred me to nearest specialist heart hospital and they moved remarkably fast.

M in L had a 24 hour recorder: twice.  She was told to go about her daily chores as 'normal', did she heck as like: she stayed with her son for 3 days being waited on - so of course, no readings  .  The 3rd time it was suggested I spoke to her GP and explained ……. it turned out to be the fact that her GP had told her not to add salt to her diet which nearly killed her  so once that was sorted, she didn't require any more monitoring.
