Health anxiety tetanus this time
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:52:49 AM »

I am so so so fed up of health anxiety, mine is off the scale right now. I don't know how many dread diseases I have had in the last few weeks. My logical brain knows its stupid, but my newly transplanted brain is not listening.
I try to tell myself its hormones but I keep getting symptoms of this and that and soon my new brain pipes up with a nice scare story for me to ruminate over.
Today we have tetanus. I got a garden scratch last week so panicing got  tetanus booster, then today I have a twinge or two in one side of my jaw and silly brain says, oh what if its tetanus.
I've not had a period since February, still seeing what looks like ovulation discharge though, no flushes for ages, just bouts of crying and fear.
I just so needed to say all that I am so so so so fed up.

You have health anxiety + tension = tightening in the jaw line?

If your tetanus jabs are not up to date why not pop along to the nurse and get a booster.

It would make you feel much better if you could take away that particular worry.

Although I live in a high risk area I never think about whether my boosters are up to date ………..  ::)

honeybun, I did on Friday, still managing to convince myself it wont do the trick and the scratch honestly was tiny but I got small thorns in it and for the first time in my 53 years decided I was at extreme risk. Ridiculous.

You will be fine then.

Think I probably could do with a booster too.

I was cutting back hawthorn [May] blossom yesterday and have a throne in my thumb (thorn  :beat: ) - which is sore.  Which needs soaking in a bowl of hot water to ease it out …….. + Savlon  ::)

I did not know this until I went about 10 years ago to get a booster as I had cut my foot in the garden - badly - you are only allowed so many tetanus boosters in your lifetime and the nurse would not give me one. Anyone else heard the same?

Similar - Moved to current house (in Wales) in 2001 and asked if I was due a tetanus booster.
Was told, oh we don't do that now........   :-\

When I worked in the Welsh NHS there was a lot of 'talk' about boosters - it was decided that once a person had been through the 2 jabs and a booster: twice in their lifetime : that should be enough.  I don't know what the current thinking is on this, maybe check with each Health Authority?

I was told a course of 5 is sufficient they believe. however at my age I may not have had all the kids of today get. I remember having a booster at 19 when I was injured at work as a nurse. But even if you have all you need a significant injury or dog bite still warrants another injection.

Mightn't be relevant here, but.....

On our local evening news tonight.
The local health board authority has just been place under "Special Measures"

These are the people with overall responsibility  for the tetanus booster comments.
Oh, and very nearly killing OH when a Dr in A&E decided to give beta blockers when OH's pulse was was 48.
The triage nurse had taken his pulse and said "it's 48, good job he hadn't taken beta blockers", and sent hm through to A&E where Dr knew better, gave OH BB pills, OH was in the coronary care unit for 3 days.

So, perhaps my comments re tetanus boosters may not be quite the thing....
