How does OH feel about it now it's done?

Strange you should mention that CLKD - the barge boards still need to be painted.............

At the moment, OH feels very tired but relieved that it is finally done. Also, irked at the stunning incompetence of the workers involved. He wasn't too keen on being lied to either, they said all the timbers were in good condition, when many were rotten.

OK - Now the painting is finished, scaffolding will go in the coming week. However, is an unexpected outcome from the roofing work.

Prior to painting last week OH decides to clear the gutters. In the drain, near where there used to be a little nook underneath the old leadwork, he finds a nest with 6 blue eggs. The bird had obviously decided to build it's nest near where it has always done, even though it's not got the shelter anymore.  OH moved the nest a couple of inches as it's blocking the drain

When checking things last night the bird was in residence so it was possible to identify it as a Pied Wagtail. Thankfully it hasn't abandoned the nest. If it can cope for the next few weeks hopefully things will be ok.

OH how lovely!  I would have said 'blackbird' so a Pied wagtail is even more un-usual.  Get some meal worms and supplement her diet, she'll soon learn that you have something 'extra', ours bob around with the blackbird/blue tits/starlings etc.

It looks as if the Pied Wagtail has gone.
When OH looked out earlier there was no sign of her.
It must have been a shock when the roof was ripped off.
Hopefully it wasn't their first clutch.

What a shame but she might be around ………

What a shame. Are the eggs still there? Pied wagtail lay grey eggs which kind of darker grey blotches/spots on them.

OH later amended the "blue" eggs to "bluey / grey"

We don't know if the eggs are still there today, it seemed best to disturb the nest as little as possible, so we haven't looked.. The bird may have decided to go elsewhere anyway, it rained last night which will have flowed through the nest. There must be lots more sensible places to nest than under the lead sheet (temps getting very high in the sun) where the nest originally was.

You may find that the eggs have been taken anyway. Pied Wagtails have up to three broods a year so hopefully they'll nest again somewhere more suitable!

As at 7am this morning - There WAS a bird sitting on the nest!
OH was doing something to a roof (not the part that's just been done) and he could see an eye peering out at him. So here's hoping..........

Mind you, the nest is in a bit of a daft spot now, it would probably be better for them if they relocated.
There's going to be heavy rain this week, not good for a nest in a gutter.

DO NOT DISTURB - Mummy knows best.  In fact it is an offence to disturb a nesting bird so OH needs to stay well away for the next couple of weeks.  Maybe have a camera at the ready to take photos

CLKD - We wouldn't dream of disturbing a nesting bird.
As far as we are concerned she and nest stay where they are.
It is a daft place for them though, very heavy rain forecast for later this week

THE SCAFFOLDING HAS GONE!

Oh got a phone call yesterday to say they would be here at 8am today to remove scaffolding.
He heads out at 7.30 to move the car, as we were going into town at 10am. Too Late - the truck was already there 
OH asked nicely and they moved the truck so the car could be moved.  Oh, and he made them tea 

The Pied Wagtail is still sitting on the nest <cross fingers> 

The only outstanding things now are;
- Finish painting the masonry on the gable end, couldn't be done whilst scaffolding was there.
- Seal the gaps on the barge boards which were painted last week (paint has to wait 10 days before it can be done)
- Get the power company to remove the shrouding from the electric cables. Needed due to proximity of scaffolding.

Will it ever be done............
