I used to take amitriptyline for nerve pain. Can't remember it being a problem. I was on 10mg a day. Maybe others have had different experiences. They have to warn you of possible side effects, but not everyone suffers. My main problem with them was a very dry mouth, especially at night.

I've been on it for a little over 2 years now for back pain (20.mg). Like Cubagirl said, I did suffer with a dry mouth to begin with and often felt a bit woozy when I first woke up but it soon wore off and now I don't seem to have any symptoms with it.

Hi Hellen, my GP put me on Amitryptline to try and stop my migraine, which it didn't do. However, yes, as a fellow constipation sufferer, I'm afraid to say it did make me worse and I had to take it in conjunction with Lactulose which only gave me wind!!
I've been off it for a long time now but when I need a good night's sleep I take one and it sends me off lovely!

Hi Hellen, I take 20mg of amitriptyline a night and it did cause constipation at first but after a couple of weeks I was back to normal. During that time I just made sure I had a few prunes each day.
