soreness driving me sad ..............
« on: May 04, 2015, 09:52:03 AM »

hi, excuse me for just having a moan, everytime i think im going forward i seem to go backwards after 7 to 11 days.... i decided to pay to see a private gyne, who recommended vagifem every day for three months, and amitripyline.   i ran scared of taking the amitripyline, but now thinking of trying half a tablet  5mg, of the 10mg prescriped, and see how i go.. and paracetamol to ease the  pain which seems to be about four inches in, and sometimes higher., i think it may have been were the vagifem was. ... . i started on the vagifem, experienced a little bit of burning but nothing major, i glowed but it took away the awful pain, felt i was going forward, brilliant, didnt need to take the amitripyline, as discomfort was nothing major...  felt i was moving forward.  by day eleven, here we go again, really sore, agony, swelling acute pain, now this dam pulsating throbbing..  everything i try seems to come back to the same point.. im so fed up................ so i guess its continue with the vagifem and take the amtriptyline and hope for the best, as i do feel now that the vagifem has dissolved, that it has helped a bit.. ... hell i dont know what to do anymore.. cant get in to see the gyne for a week,   now the vagifem has dissolved the swelling and the burning of the vagifem, has gone i.  .  i feel like i have atrophy pain, and then this other pain. the vagifem treats one, but not the other..., if i could give up i would ...

Hang in there Hellen

I think if you go back to the gynae he/she will wonder why you haven't tried the amitriptyline.
I saw a gynae privately when everything started with me and was prescribed vagifem and amitriptyline 25mg for 2 years after which point to taper off the amitriptyline.

I don't think 5mg amitriptyline will do much and the 10mg will take a few weeks to take effect anyway.

The throbbing is something i get and i feel it is either a nerve that needs to calm down or the blood supply pumping - problem is noone is going to be able to tell you as there are no scans that will show nerves down below.

i know how you feel Hellen  - it's all s**t - have you asked Maryjane about the London specialist she mentioned ? it just may be worth it to go beyond the local gynae in case something else is going on. I saw our top local one but all the tools he had were vagifem and amitriptyline.

I really sympathise with you must be awful.   :-\

But wouldn't it be better to do as the private gynecologist said at least try or what was the point of spending your hard earned money,if then there is no great improvement possibly consider another private specialist. Hope things improve for you soon.

Hi, thank you so much for your replies .. yes i think i will have to take the amitripyline, i thought if i started with a 5g dose, it wouldn upset me so much, i have read some comments that said they felt like a zombie... but maybe on much higher doses. what time is the best time to take it.. i usually go to bed about one what are your thoughts xxx

Some ladies find that Vagifem makes them sore  :-\ which really does defeat the point?

I took amitriptalene for facial neuralgia, it made no difference at all.

Hi Hellen, I totally agree with Hattie, we are both going through the same c**p at the moment  :'( I was initially prescribed Elleste HRT plus Vagifem and amitriptyline to help with my vulval pain. I was initially on 10mg but am now taking 20mg. I do find it helps and certainly makes me sleep which means I can function better. I take mine at bedtime, around 10pm, and get up at 6.30 for work. I am at my desk at 8.30 with no grogginess. I think if it has been prescribed for you then you really should give it a go, 10 mg is a very small dose. Hope you feel better soon, the burning pain is truly awful x x

thanks for your replies, i will give it a go, i hope i wake up for mid night trip to the loo, or that could be messy lol.. i notice that amitripyline has been prescribed more for vulva pain, rather than vaginal pain... is it possible to  take pain killers with it... and what pain killers do other people use if they need them. i have been taking paracetamol... is this ok with amitripyline ..

Amitriptyline is used to help nerve pain Hellen. My pain was in my vagina and my vulva. No other painkillers touched the pain, occasionally I take ibufrofen to help with shoulder pain and it doesn't seem to interact with the amitriptyline. I would think paracetamol would be OK, Judith x
