Lots of us suffer anxiety.  There are medications that can ease symptoms, I take a beta-blocka every evening as well as having an emergency pill for when it over-whelms me.

Lots of ladies can't tolerate the progesterone part of treatment.  You may be able to use the search button for your prescription too to get some ideas.

Hi janiet

 :welcomemm:

Which two monthly combination are you on at the moment?

Those of us on this regime as you are, take some sort of transdermal oestrogen (patch or gel) together with progesterone (micronised) - available as Utrogestan. Perhaps you are on this too?

Other than this and depending on where you are in menopause, and whether you are with a specialised gynae eg a meno clinic - some gynaes allow a 3 monthly cycle to minimise progesterone but this needs to be monitored as it can lead to a thickened lining or exacerbate problems such as fibroids.

CKLD what beta blocker to you have?  I was given Propranolol and advised to take it three times a day but it makes me feel very unwell, not myself at all. I have had it for 2 months, got another month to go till review but I have had to reduce the dose. It made me feel like my heart rate and BP went too low.

Hi babyjane, I am on Propranolol for anxiety. I am prescribed up to 1 x 40mg tablet, 3 times a day but only take 1 a day. I did take 2 a day but felt my heart racing at night. I feel ok with just the 1 in the morning.
Maybe cut down to 2 a day for a week & see how you get on.

Hi

how long have you been on this option of HRT btw?

Also are you on the estrogen till your start on the prog part then restart the prog after 12 days.

I take 40mg Propranolol at night - if necessary I add another dose in the morning.  It can make me feel a bit spaced out and I think maybe 3 times a day is far too much!

Janiiet - how are you today?

Thank you CLKD and Cazikins.

I only have the 10mg tablets and even that three times a day makes me feel unpleasant.  I am hypersensitive to medication and have cut down to 5mg three times a day which my consultant says is too little to make any difference but I dislike the side effects of this medication.

My heart rate and BP have come down but I feel depressed, irritable, confused and grumpy (no change there then - joking) since taking this medication.

Funny thing is that I am getting the anxiety surges still but when I do, if I take my pulse, my heart rate is steady, it does not quicken with the surges.

I don't know what is happening to me and I realise members of this forum cannot advise on medical matters.  I see my GP in 2 weeks and my consultant in July.

If a medication has a good effect at lower/higher doses than recommended then it works  ::)

When do you take your Propranolol?  I take mine before I get into bed.

Mine is between 9.00 and 10.00 p.m. - 40mg tablet with a chocolate milkshake  ;)

Have you thought about when you feel worse and if cutting out 1 tablet would make a difference?

Yes thank you, but if I don't have one of them I start to climb the walls.  I will keep the status quo until I see my GP in 2 weeks  :)

Propranolol stops the physical manifestations of anxiety but doesn't stop the psychological sensations, unfortunately.

So you can still feel waves of dread/anxiety but physically your body remains calm.
