Helooo!  My first month of new regime and its going well, however I have a couple of questions which ive been unable to find the answers to.  Could anyone help please?

I am on 200mgs utrogestan 15-26 and am today on day 11 with no bleed. I do know that 85% of women don't, but is this due to 'one of those things'? I guess I wanted to know if this happens to anyone else :-)

Also. I feel very well indeed on the utrogestan so I wondered what are the chances of he being able to use the 100mg 1-25 instead. I know this is generally a conti regime but I'm sure I've seen other women (43) offered it?

Hi Nina - You are 43? Have your periods stopped completely  - in other words are you post meno?
If you have only done one cycle so far then the lining of your uterus may not have built up enough to actually give a bleed. I started Oestrogel with Utrogestan a few months ago and the first Utrogestan phase only produced a bit of spotting and then the second time I got a proper bleed. 
If you are post meno then you could do the continuous regime and I believe some late peri women also do the conti version. Hopefully others will be along with advice.  DG

Yes I realise you meant that after doing a double take!

As you say a small proportion of women don't bleed on a cyclical HRT. Do you know how far you are into menopause - the further towards menopause you get the less likely you will have enough oestrogen of your own to add to the mix?

When I was on cyclical HRT I had a bleed to start with (I was late peri) but the last 6 months or year ( I was 57 and post) I didn't get any bleeding. I was using Cyclogest (progesterone pessaries) but the same principles applied.

If you are not getting a bleed then perhaps you could go onto 100 mg - check with your doctor? Did you say you are 43? It may well be also that you could increase the dose of oestrogen a little (to 4 pumps) if you are this young depending on whether you find the oestrogen dose is sufficient to control your symptoms and make you feel good?This should bring on a bleed on the cyclical regime. If you increased the dose and also went to 100 mg days 1 -25, then you might end up getting breakthrough bleeding.

I don't know ihow far I am into meno as I started hrt whilst still having erratic light periods. I had a blood tes (I know I know ) that was consistent with menopause when I was 38 I think.

I think I will increase to 4 pumps and stay on 15-26 for the next month and see what happens.

I love an experiment, me!!

I take 200mg utrogestan and I had no bleed, until I started sticking it up my chuff
First month of vaginal utrogestan and I must have been saving that blood up because when I stood up, first thing on getting up, whoosh!
Now, periods are normal, vaginal utrogestan has worked for me. I didnt tell the doctor though because its not licenced here for vag.

So, tmi alert but if you use it vaginally what happens to your sex life? Because do uou put it up there before bed, and if so surely you can't have sex that night?

I have just upped my oestrogen actually to four pumps and have slept better so thanks to those unthread who suggested it

I get into bed and put it up.
So long as you put it up high enough, I don't see a problem with sex, but it would be interesting what other women say.
I know, sometimes on a morning, I feel a little trickle come out, but I think the utro has been absorbed mostly during the night.

I went onto conti while in peri and got on really well with it! I had some very minor breakthrough bleeding in the first 4 weeks then nothing untoward after that! I also use utrogestan vaginally - just need to plan your sex life and then I insert after! I know it's not very romantic but it works ....

Yes it can be tricky to plan that aspect - and depends how active you are! Theoretically that's why I have a long cycle but since libido went awol it's not much of an issue for me  . I have done the act after insertion and it didn't have any effect but wouldn't want this to be to often as there is likely to be some...  er dilution if not a douching effect !!

I'm due to start my second round of utrogestan tomorrow and I'll think I'll stick to swallowing it tbh.

So dandelion, you say you were peri when you changed to conti. Why did you do this and did your doctor agree straightaway?

Sorry not been around for a few days so just seen your post. Im 43 and I take utrogestan 100 every day and still seem to get a monthly bleed. I used to take it sequi fashion but I feel much better when taking utro so doc allows me to take it continuously. I have slight fibroids and although doc said I was post meno I still think I have some natural hormones coming through hence the bleed. I take it vaginally but when I bleed I take it orally instead as I'm too squeamish to do it then!!

My specialist was always in favour of me taking continuously as my progesterone was so low through the entire cycle! Added to that I was having horrible symptoms when just on estrogen. He strongly believes there must be balance between all the hormones and that progesterone is important for so many reasons, anti-inflammatory effects, calming effects and brain function. I just went with what worked for me. I always felt much better on both - not true for everyone but definitely true for some!!

Completely agree suzyq - for me, my panic attacks and anxiety are totally reduced since using utrogestan continuously. Only downfall for me is fatigue-but I'd rather feel exhausted but happy!
