Low dose patch - advice please
« on: March 16, 2015, 10:15:35 AM »

Hi I have to see my GP soon with regard to still being on kliovance HRT for ten years. I am 60 and I have tried several times by gentle and slow procedure to come off the kliovance and last time I managed to get down to half a tablet a day but the hot flushes, sleeplessness and night sweats returned and I've also been feeling very off balance, nausea, vertigo and light headedness so I have started to take the full dose again to see if this makes me feel better. What I would like to know is when I have to see my GP are there any recommendations of a low dose patch that I could change to as I know that this is slightly less dangerous than the tablet form of HRT as I fear she is going to say I have to come off the HRT now and I am terrified about that to be honest as I feel so unwell most of the time as it is without having to cope with the menopause symptoms all over again now. I am in the UK East of England. Any advice would be very happily received. Thanks to you all for being there! :-\

Sorry, but its not manditory to drop to a lower dose.

But your doc should already be aware that your kliovance is a low dose option already!!!

Reducing you to an ultra low dose will bring back the symptoms you mentioned and have already experienced when trying to reduce your Kliovance HRT.

I personally would not waste my time on a lower dose.

As for the doctor asking you to stop, its her duty to care for you.
Thus, its her duty to listen to what you want.

Therefore she cannot just stop your HRT option.
You require it for menopausal symptoms and have proved already that reductions don't work.

The latest word is that no artificial or arbitrary time limit should be placed on our HRT use.
Get your doctor to look at this link:

http://www.thebms.org.uk/statementpreview.php?id=1

The use over 60 mentioned in this link is for ladies "just starting at 60 or above" at that time but on a "low" dose.
As you've been already using low dose HRT successfully for 10 years through the optimal / best start time then you should continue unhindered by your Doc. If you want to raise it later if any symptoms did appear then that should be possible too.

You could swap to patches/gel etc but that is also your choice as a lot of us feel tablets are better option to work with.
Swapping could also introduce you back to trial and error and possible break through bleeds which which might open you to needless investigation.

Stick with what you want and don't change too much at once.
Be firm and don't get bullied into something your not happy with.

Hope it goes well and this helps.

Hi Fultime,

I can sympathise with you. I was told to reduce my HRT as I am 56 and been using HRT for 5 years. Started on Everal 50 patch 3 weeks ago, previously using 3/4 pumps of gel.

symptoms such has feeling off balance, dizziness,  leakage (urine) general not my self. The only positive is previously felt so wired as if overdosed on caffeine.....

Like Peegeetip says if you feel well on your current HRT stick with it. It's about quality of life!

Thank you that's very helpful. Is it possible I feel light headed and off balance because of cutting down so much as you mention that yourself? I have been back on full dose for 5 weeks now so maybe It takes longer to get back into my system. I think I would be better sticking to what has suited me for so long. Thanks again for advice.
