Been back to dentist.sleepless night, my face is swollen this morning and sensitive to touch.

I have a dry socket in one of the extractions which is causing the pain, it has been drained and packed..instant relief, 3 days of metrozinole,and back on thursday

Dental nurse told me its unusual in a front tooth, but may be to do with menopause,as hormones play havoc with gums and healing...she is of the age to probably know first hand!

Glad you got back to dentist.  I know how painful dry socket is!!  The packing they put in the hole works wonders though!

The packing is threatening to come out by the look of it, but guess its stuffed in quite a way.

Also feel a bit queasy on these antibiotics but anything is better than the horrendous pain of last 2 nights.

Note to self...dont have a tooth extraction on a Friday again.. Especially when dentist is not a 24hr one. Sure you can ring 111, but their advice is nurofen and paracetamol, which as my dentist said this morning ,isn't adequate enough for dry socket pain.

I had packing done on Friday and although looked like it was all going to fall out it didn't.  Had repacked on Monday and again its well sticking out of hole but it shouldn't fall out anytime soon.  Dentist told me to leave it alone cos it will eventually disintegrate and I don't need to do anything.  Take care x

Hi Milly,  Hope you have been able to see your dentist today!  I have just been back again and had my extraction site repacked.  Still hurts loads though

What do you mean by repacked?  My son had 2 wisdom teeth out and although he says they are not painful they hurt if anything sweet or cold gets in the hole and I was wondering if he needs to go back.  But you know what boys are like lol

When did he have the teeth removed?  I couldn't eat anything except slop [lovingly prepared by DH  ] for 3 weeks following Wisdoms out.  Sweet can often affect the gum line

toffeecushion, if the extraction site (hole left by tooth removed) gets food/debris stuck in it becomes more painful and can inflame gums.  There is some stuff, cant remember the name of it but it has anesthetic/numbs the area a bit - like a mediated dressing which dissolves over a period of time.  Really helps!!   It is always used for dry sockets but in my case on this occasion just too painful even with blood clot and it speeds the healing process.  Hope this helps

I'm getting more help from my dentist regarding my menopausal symptoms than I am the GP..

Have been back today for irrigation and more packing, change of antibiotics as metrozinole was upsetting me awfully.

She is quite sure my teeth nightmares are due to lack of oestrogen and has told me to insist on HRT patches, especially with my dexa scan results and low vitamin D ..she says migraines are not contra indictictive and I'm to be assertive.
