Starting taking these to help with anxiety surges only small dose 10 mg in morning 10 mg at night then need to build dose up,can/does anyone know what is Ok to take think leaflet says up to 80mg daily for anxiety but can I just take it like I do with diazepam ie. If I feel bad patch can I just take 10mg or doesn't it work like that. Gp did say I could still take diazepam if very bad but to try not to as we wouldn't know if the beta bloka was working or if it was still the diazepam ! Hope that makes sense ??
I know a few of you ladies have experience of propranol so hope you can guide me xx

I'm pretty sure you can take it on an "as needed" basis - I've taken it a couple of times to help with nerves for things like auditions etc.

Some take it as and when but I take it 3 times a day, 20mg each time and I feel it has taken the hysterical anxiety away and left me feeling more in control and able to work thru my anxietys. I used 10mg 3 times a day 3 years ago and used it for a few months and it worked well. It is not addictive. My worrying mind still worrys but as I say I am able to rationalise things more. I feel my hormones are dipping at the moment which in turn is creating stress for me and I must say these betablockers do work for me when I take them every day xx

I had 80mg at night for 3 months then the GP dropped it to 40mg ……… if I need to I add 40mg at breakfast.
Take it as prescribed!

She said ,doctor that is, start with 10 mg am and pm ,then work up to 80mgs as I got used to it ! So I had 10 mg this morning at 0600 when I got up,woken again by slight jitters , but didn't feel as good as yesterday,so I took another 10 mg at 1400 and think I try 20 mg tonight before I go to bed see how that goes. Feel at bit disheartened today as I felt almost normal yesterday
Wish this would all just go away for us all its so all consuming and draining

You could always ask for 80 mg slow release, take it at night and it's in your system all day. I started on that and felt fine in mornings but only if I took it before bed. X

BB can woke opposite to what they are designed for so sticking to what the GP suggested is the way to go. 80mgs is a HUGE amount …… and not for use for very long. Let the medication do it's work and remember to eat, eat, eat

Thanks EM ,can understand why Peri could be up and down with fluctuations but thought at 55 they would be more stable ,think I might discuss getting stronger hrt, didn't get this much up and down 5 years ago
Might be the extra progesterone had to take that has caused some of it I guess . X

Absolutely.
If you're not sure, why not go back to your doctor and ask? People on this forum do not know your medical history and details of other medications.

From what I read Dazned wasn't asking if she could just up her dose herself, Her GP had said to up to 80 over a period on how she felt. I don't think anyone suggested she just do it. Dazned was just looking for advise on how people felt with higher dose, from what I took from it anyway x

The thing with a Forum is to glean anything of interest that might be suitable then go to the GP/Practice Nurse/Pharmacist for advice
