Anyone else ...?
« on: February 27, 2015, 11:55:08 AM »

Does anyone else get this weird feeling,it happens every morning about 0645 as soon as I start to wake up,I get what I can only describe as a wave starting from my feet and can feel it traveling up my body like a sort of shakiness, when it sort of passes through me it stops ,then after a couple of minutes it starts again until I eventually have to get up incase it gets worse after moving about it goes away???

I'm guessing something/ hormone or whatever is peaking at that time but know idea what........ or is it just me  :-\

That's how how flushes would waken me every morning.  Although moving about made little difference.

Hello dazned.

I used to get something similar but haven't had it now for quite a while, this may be due to HRT or maybe that phase has passed.

The feelings never affected my legs but did include my body and head. I used to lie in bed and imagine I was a Spirit Level ( the tool builders use to test that levels are straight ) and I'd think of the shakiness and anxiety as the air bubble in the liquid and feel it travel up and down my head and body, never leaving completely, just changing location.

Your post reminded me of that particular weirdness so I thought I'd pass it on. Oh the joys of meno eh!

Take care.

I'm thinking it's adrenaline but why it should come when I m only just waking up don't know .

Seeing gp Monday maybe ask her if a small amount of beta blocker at night might help  :-\

Don't really know the answer ! Clutching at straws me thinks  ;)

Yes it could be CLKD ,I get virtually set my clock by it.  I think I read on here that proponal (spelling ) works for some people and I looked it up nhs website says it's sometimes used for anxiety ???

Hi Dazned - I have had this issue for quite some time, sometimes it precipitates a raising of temperature and warmth but sometimes it's just a surge of 'anxiety' through my body, I also think it is adrenalin.

At one point it was sending me 'into action', by that I mean I was responding to it, I had to get up and was switched 'on' immediately and just racing adrenalin. I decided to just let it pass and as you say, it does.  Now I don't respond and I stay in bed and deep breath or think of something else until it passes.

As far as my own hypothesis goes, this in my mind is definately stress hormones, rising and falling along with female hormones doing their thing.  When we are asleep cortisol levels rise and fall and if we are low on cortisol, adrenalin is produced instead = panic. Cortisol natural goes up when we wake, I am guessing that if 'too much' adrenalin is in the mix, it would cause this hypervigilant state in the body.  I'm not sure of all the mechanisms, thyroid function and adrenal function are under stress around menopause, so perhaps it's this?

Tips from me would be to only do light stretching/relaxation excercise in the evenings and unwind a few hours before you aim to go to sleep.  Another tip that seems to help is to eat something small before I go to sleep, something with protein, a bit of cheese, nuts seeds - this helps to keep blood sugar stable through the night, which if not balanced adds to the whole crazy hormonal pattern going 'wrong'.  Drinking enough water every day also makes a difference for me. Basically the 'stress' of hormonal changes means we need to eliminate stress somewhere else in our lives to remain on an even keel - I'm attempting this, but it's quite a task sometimes :)

Good luck

Thanks for that info Brightlight,

Sounds really interesting and makes a lot of sense even to me, I love it when people explains things in simple way for me  ;D

Will try eating a little something tonight see if that helps and try to stay put tomorrow as long as I can stand it !  X

Dazned, glad it read as simple our bodies are so complicated ;) If simple changes don't help, you might have to think of a new strategy to try.  The semi explanation of what is going on helped me quite a bit to detach from it when it happens and start to have a more relaxed response to it all x
